New invoicing - copy to bill
Give sales invoices the ability to create self-billing contractor bills - the same as billable expenses but for the the sales side, rather than the purchase side. I produce high vol royalties where the suppliers(producers) do not physically bill, but we need to raise the charges directly in line with the sales received. Massively labour intensive and could be fixed with this function.
Hi everyone, to give a bit more detail from our status update a few months ago - The ability to copy to a bill is a feature that the team will be building into the new invoicing experience. They have a few items on their agenda and I want to be open that this is not planned to be delivered until after the sunset of classic invoicing.
For the time being, you'll find you can still copy to a new invoice, quote, purchase order or bill from the invoices list view.
You can get a bit more of an understanding of what's coming from our Xero central page. When there's more news on copy to a bill I'll share this, here.

I strongly recommend this feature. I won't use the new invoicing without it.

This is a must have. I do fund accounting so for every transfer (invoice) there is a corresponding bill to enter with matching info. It really helps the workflow. Only having to enter the information once and then copying across to a bill is essential.

Don't think I articulated my original point very well, judging by the comments. I'm looking for a reverse 'billable expenses' situation, where each line of an invoice could be assigned to a different bill/contact; not a wholesale 'copy to bill' function - although I appreciate that this is widely used and needs to remain as a priority for many people.

I utilise this feature for the same type of payments. Distributing Royalties and revenue to artists as well as distributing commissions to other parties.
This feature is not only convenient as I am able to copy the invoice and data into multiple bills as required but also tracks the movement of the payments as I am able to see the sales invoice was copied to a bill and the bill was paid out in the history section.
It also enables us to see which sales invoice a payment is linked to when looking at past payments.

Hi Team,
I can see the Classic Invoicing has just been communicated as extended until November along with a link to show New Invoicing feature status:
https://central.xero.com/s/article/Xero-new-invoicing-releases
Under the "Features coming after retiring classic invoicing" it lists the "Copy to"
Can we get an update on expected timelines for this feature, is it going to be before the extended cut-off of Classic Invoicing, if not, when is this feature expected to be implemented in the New Invoicing? That article doesn't provide any indicative timeframes that I can see i.e. Q1 2025 etc.

I agree with Mark on this one, we need to be able to copy an invoice into a Bill like the old version. This is a key feature that needs to be enabled before the old invoicing module is switched off.

Australia Version
For us this is a massive thing and the reason why we moved back to classicHas this been sorted? if not when will it be as we should be able to copy them like we could with the older version,
The programming would already be there with the older version just needs to be transfered to the new version,
If not been done do you have a ETA as to when to expect it.

@kelly Jumping on late to this thread. Can you please let me know the timeframe between the senset of Classic Invoicing and implementation of Invoice to Bill copying. Just need to make sure we're only looking at a matter of days rather than months for this crucial feature that I use every day in Xero. Thanks :)

This function is necessary for us to assist with tracking COG for services we on-bill to customers.
For example, an Internet Service. We would typically setup a recurring invoice for a customer and when we receive the corresponding invoice from the ISP, our team will typically "Copy to Bill" from the customer invoice so we have a linked bill tagged to the customer invoice with the cost of the services delivered accounted for?
In regards to the proposed work-around, when our team go to Invoices we do not see checkboxes like in the screenshot under the "All" tab, we've been advised by support the checkboxes are only available under Drafts or Awaiting Payment tabs etc. it's not ideal.
It's quite frustrating that Xero are forcing drastic changes like this with incomplete functionality built into the new tools.

Yes, agreed @Lauren Harvey - it needs to be implemented to the 'New Invoicing' before the compulsory switch.
We still have to use the old because of this feature.

Please bump this up the list - especially as we have semi-funtionality around this currently with the copy to bill functionality which is about to be withdrawn with the new Xero Sales invoicing - Please Xero lets not go backwards here!!

what!!?? Why would this not be a feature in the new invoicing. We use this for every invoice required COGS... so like EVERY invoice.
We've had to switch back to classic as new is unusable until this existing feature is implemented to the new invoicing.

We have the same "number" for our Quote, then to Invoice, then to Purchase Order, then to Bill. This keeps things 100% aligned and no one is ever confused about where the dollars are going or correlating "oh invoice 100 is matching quote 79 but it is purchase order 172 and bill 63."
Please implement this asap

Absolutely necessary!! and ability to copy Bill to invoice as well! It would really be a time saver. I do not understand why Xero is so resistant to introduce this function!

I use this function on a daily basis so would be great for Xero to also carry over this function to the new version

This would be a game changer in sales. This would save hours of labor on my end.
