New Invoicing - History to include if invoice is resent
When an amendment is made and the invoice resent it needs to record who it has been sent to
366 votesHi everyone, we want to share that we've released a change to history for each time an invoice is sent.
Invoice history will now show the primary recipient email whenever an invoice is sent. This includes the initial and any subsequent send of an invoice.
We appreciate this has been a pain point for everyone that's joined in the idea here and hope this visibility improves your experience in invoicing.
We'd like to confirm how this works;
- This record is only applicable from here on in, there are no updates to any historical entries for sending.
- History will show the email of the initial recipient entered in the 'To' field any emails that you include as a CC or BCC option will not be shown.
We do want to highlight, that while the email will be recorded in majority of cases, there are a few scenarios our team have picked…

Invoicing - Make the History & Notes the same as in Classic Invoicing
Please leave the history of an invoice EXACTLY as it was in the classic invoicing.
The new invoicing doesn't show the invoice that it was copied from or copied to and this is very important as a trail.
I really don't understand why so many important features from the classic invoicing has been omitted.
OR
let your customers continue using the classic invoicing as they like
770 votesHi everyone, as another step toward improving history of new invoicing you'll find you'll now see an entry when an invoice is sent, and the email address it has been sent to.
We appreciate this is something we've heard a fair amount of feedback on and we hope helps in your journey to using new invoicing.
We still have more enhancements on the way for history and I'll be back again when more updates land.

Invoicing - Add Payment details on invoice screen
When using the new style of invoicing, it is no longer possible to enter a customer payment which having to click on the receive payment option. Using classic invoicing, the fields to enter the payment are present on the invoice screen. The classic invoicing method is much more efficient when entering a large number of customer invoices, so it would be great if these fields could be added to the invoice screen on the new style.
349 votesHey everyone👋 Thanks so much for sharing all your feedback and keeping the conversation going here. We've been following along and considering changes around the process for adding payments in new invoicing.
As we mentioned in our last update, while we won’t be bringing classic invoicing back, we're taking a close look at what made it work so well for you. The ability to quickly enter payment information without leaving the invoice is a key part of that.
To address this, our product team is now working to reintroduce this functionality to the invoice page.
We can’t share a timeline just yet, but we want you to know that your comments have been a vital part of this process. We’ll be sure to post an update here as soon as we have more to share.🙂

Bills - Add 'Upload bills' to Dashboard.
Add the 'Upload bills' feature as a widget on the Dashboard, for convenience.
At present you have to navigate to 'Bills to pay', then from the 'New bill' dropdown, select 'Upload bills'. It's a great time saving feature, but seems tucked away, and would be great if right from the dashboard I could just drop bills, and invoices, ready to process later.13 votesHi team, pleased to share that this is a feature that will be coming with the new Xero Homepage! Once released it will be an option available from the bill drop down within the Bills to pay widget 😊. I'll round back to share as it becomes available in orgs.
If you'd like to get more understanding of the new homepage and navigation visit our website and try out the prototype!

New Invoicing | Contact - Change default selection on tab from "add new"
Currently trying to use the new invoicing, but I'll start typing a contact name then tab across before seeing the contact pop up, since I use this contact daily. Under the old invoicing, it would just find the contact once I hit tab. Under the new invoicing, a new contact is created. And since the invoice is saved immediately, this new contact is also saved, so once I finish with the invoice, I then need to go and archive the contact that was created.
Can we change the defaults or something to fix this?
It does the same thing with…11 votesHi community, appreciate your feedback. Currently our team are working on some improvements to the To field in new invoicing and the contacts card that appears when selecting a contact. We understand some of our customers make use of the keyboard much more than the mouse and in reviewing the flow when using Tab the team will be making a change to make selection of a contact and movement to the date field smoother. I'll come back to confirm the detail of the change when this is released.

New Invoicing - Type the date manually, without / delimiters
It would be really useful to have a way of typing the date without having to use a / in between the numbers, like you could on classic invoicing
e.g. 20012024 used to convert automatically to 20th January 2024 on classic invoicing
41 votesThanks for your interest in this idea, everyone. We understand there are different ways our customers find useful when entering dates for invoices in Xero.
Based on feedback our team are looking at improvements to the date pickers in new invoicing. While I can't confirm exactly what these will entail atm, we'll shift the idea to working on it and I'll be back to confirm when we have more of the detail.

Invoicing - Sending Invoices by SMS
ADD SMS OPTION TO SEND INVOICE VIA SMS. LOT OF PEOPLE SEND VIA IPHONE OR IPAD ECT
50 votesHi all, we wanted to share an update for our US customers that sending invoices via SMS is now available! We have just released this functionality and you can use the same Xero Central article as shared in the last update to understand the in's & out's of how this works. After this release we will be working on delivering this to the UK and NZ markets. As mentioned initially this is limited to the Stripe payment service but we will also be expanding this other payment services down the line.

Invoice templates - Set defaults for show/hide fields
When creating/editing an invoice with the new style, you can select fields to show/hide. We would like to be able to change these and set the changes as default - at the moment you have to go in and select the ones you would like to see every time you are editing an invoice. The main one for us is the discount column - we would like to see this on every invoice. Having this functionality to show/hide is good, but just don't want to change this every time.
13 votesHi everyone, we appreciate your feedback on the show/hide fields option. As you may have seen in other updates we're working on a new line item grid that will encompass a few enhancements we know our customers want to see, and will also include an improvement to the behaviour of the show/hide fields so the options you select will be retained. I'll come back to confirm when this is released.

Xero with Stripe: Support for Afterpay payments
Now that Stripe offers Afterpay, it would be helpful to add Afterpay to Xero's native Stripe integration.
50 votesHi team, we're developing more ways to pay with Stripe!
Soon you'll have the option to offer Afterpay as a payment method to your customers which we know is important to all of you who've voted on this idea.
I'll round back to confirm when it's live and more detail of how to do this. 🙂

Xero to Xero - Send the attached files on the invoice
When sending invoices from Xero to Xero it doesn't attach the actual invoice in the draft bill as an attached so we don't have this invoice for record keeping purposes and can't even see if there's VAT or No VAT charged on the invoice as it is not attached to the bill. This needs to be added.
9 votesHi team, apologies as we have jumped the gun a little - While it's currently possible to include a PDF of the invoice when sending via the Xero network, including attached files is not available just yet.
However, I want to confirm this is something the team are currently working on and we will share as soon as there is another update on this.

Invoicing | History - Show detail of action made
With the currect feature History and note report we are able to see which invoice for example has been edited - change name of invoice - reconciled etc. However we would like to have a more detailed view, for example if an invoice is booked in USD and someone will change the currency in EUR we are not able to see this change , we can see only that the invoice is edited by X person but we are not able to see the change. How can we have this feature?
26 votesHi everyone, we wanted to provide an update of a recent change we have made where you'll now see the email address of the primary email entered in the To field is recorded in history each time an invoice is sent. You can read more about this change in my update here.
As mentioned on that thread there are a couple of unique scenarios we are tidying up and I'll return to confirm once that is complete.

New invoicing - Ability to add Account Code within the invoice
It would be helpful and efficient to be able to make or add an account code straight from the "account code" dropdown in the bill/invoice/journal without needing to go to chart of accounts to make a new one. Currently, users still need to go to the chart and then go back to the bill/invoice/journal but since this refreshes the page, it erases all the data already filled up in the invoice.
21 votesHi team, I'm pleased to share that we are moving this idea to In development. We know ease of being able to create new accounts while you invoice is useful to our customers and our team have a focus on this.
I'll be back to share when this is ready and shipped to you all 🙂

Chat - Insights and actions
I'd like to see a chat /conversational interface like ChatGPT where we can ask it questions like
What was our profitability last month?
Where is our biggest opportunity to cost cut?If I want to get profit to $*** with the same revenues what areas should I focus on cutting the most?
The goal here is to have conversational chat with Xero to dig through the data that's there and find action items to improve the business finances.
3 votesHi team, coming back across your idea here I wanted to share a new AI tool that we've launched that is currently in beta Just Ask Xero (JAX).
Currently JAX can automate some tasks and answer your questions ab out using Xero. We're continue to develop on JAX capabilities so you can stay up to date with what's coming next with JAX through our releases page here.

Bills - Draft Bills overview, add GST and Account columns
Is it possible to add GST and Account columns to the draft bills screen in Xero to check the account and GST total before approving?
11 votesHi everyone, right now our team are doing lots of work in the bills space to help you streamline your accounts payable. Soon, we'll be adding a quick view so you can review bills and make changes on the fly without leaving the list view. Read more on other changes coming to this space on our blog.
I'll keep you updated when this is released and you can try it out for yourself.

Sales Invoices - Issue progress payments on invoices for project/instalment
Ability to issue progress payments on quotes /invoices to percentage claim certain items or expenses.
Purpose: Users can see the progress of the payments from their customer just from one invoice instead of sending separate invoices.
211 votesThanks for all your feedback around being able to issue progress payments on sales invoices.
Right now as noted by others in the idea, one option for processing progress payments in Xero could be to use a draft invoice to keep track of the total amount, and using Copy to create new invoices for each progress payment, linking them back to the original project or quote in the description. It’s not a perfect solution, but may help manage the process.
We've been listening to your feedback and know there are multiple ways businesses operate - and we're exploring solutions for these workflows such as progress payments, and additionally, the ability to accept a deposit from a single invoice.
While we're unable to provide timeframes around this just yet, please know that this is a priority to us and we'll keep you updated on the progress through this idea.

Invoicing - Customers to pay deposits on invoices
To have the ability for customers to pay deposit through invoices
Purposes: Business can just send one invoice to customer/client, so they don’t have to send multiple invoices when it comes to part payment.
407 votesHey community, we want to acknowledge all the feedback you’ve provided on this idea. We know from your comments here and through other channels that taking deposits or partial payments on invoices is a crucial part of the workflow for many businesses, whether it's to cover initial costs or to confirm a new project.
In terms of current options, within Xero there is the ability to create prepayments. Alternatively there are some third-party apps that serve these needs, too.
However, we do want to share that our product team is actively working on a solution that'll allow you to request and accept deposit payments.
While we can't give specifics on a timeline as yet, please know that this is a priority for us. We're grateful for the detailed feedback you've provided so far, which has been invaluable in getting us to this point.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated…
