  1. Hello,

I would like for Xero to automatically calculate the VAT returns accurately when switching from a VAT scheme to another. Currently, we need to manually adjust the returns to avoid any duplications caused by the transition. There is room for a lot of human error when doing this and I believe this feature is extremely important.

  2. The tax return view/list can be significantly improved through:
    - the All tax return tab - ability to update the status from here. Currently, when we go to Lodge, we have to find the return in the All tab to determine what status it is at, then go to that specific status tab, find the return again, and update the status - this is really cumbersome, particularly when we are lodging numerous returns that are all set at different statuses.
    - the ability to see more fields/columns for each tax return to reduce the risk of lodging the incorrect return.…

  3. Currently, only some distribution amounts flow automatically from a Trust tax return to the Individual and Company beneficiary returns, and others have to be manually entered. There is also no clear area to enter these items into the individual and company returns.
This leaves room for error and causes efficiency and quality issues.
Our previous system handled this very well. It had a specific schedule for this type of distribution income.

All distributed amounts, including capital gains and foreign income should be auto transferred to the correct labels into the beneficiary tax returns.

Hi team, as Hannah mentioned Capital Gains Tax (CGT) portion of this idea was delivered end of last year. So for 2023 tax forms - CGT events from a Trust Tax Return will distribute into an Individual Tax Return. Read our previous update for more of the detail on this.

In relation to the idea for foreign income to flow through to the Individual Tax Return - this is something our team are working on at present. We've slightly updated the title of this idea now for foreign income and will return to share when there's progress on this.

  4. As a UK accountancy practice based in in Northern Ireland, it would be great if our Regulatory Body, Chartered Accountants Ireland was available for us to choose as an out of the box Accountants Report. This would then allow us to use this for Company Accounts and then to use the 'default report' option for Sole Traders, who require a different type of Accountants Report.

  6. This can be entered in the losses area of the tax statement, but does not pull into the next years tax return so is a complete waste of time.
Normal losses pull through but these rental ones do not.
    Please fix this issue.
These and normal losses should pull through from IRD - we shouldn't have to enter these manually as we currently do.

  7. I am frustrated that this has be added as "an idea" because it is clearly basic functionality. The structured buildings allowance doesn't roll forward each year and as such for the next 33 years I will need to re add the lines from 2023 and manually calculate the bought forwards. Not cool and in fact I will be looking for alternative software.

  9. So, with the old Depreciation Schedule disappearing, the new Depreciation Schedule is our go-to report. However, there are some columns that I wish were selected by default that were present in the "old" report that contain the details we need. Because these are not the default, I am having to set these columns to be present in EVERY client that I manage (and then save as a Custom Report).

I would like to see these columns added by default:

    Asset Number
    Purchased (ie: Purchase Date)
    Method
    Rate
    Closing Accum Dep

Also, do we really need the "Private Use Amount" column…

  10. Hi,
In tax returns for clients that have a business schedule in their ITR, when an asset is fully depreciated, in the following year it disappears from the tax return and depreciation schedule altogether.

Is there a way assets can remain on the depreciation schedule? It is very handy to have a full depreciation schedule for all assets, particularly if clients sell assets in the following years.

    Thank you

  11. US Tax - Create Schedule C Report with Full Cost (Total/Gross Cost Inclusive of Sales Tax) for tax return. Currently, it will pull the amounts without the sales tax (created when you match a transaction/enter an invoice using tax on purchases amounts) into the report, which is under-reporting the amount for the Schedule C tax deductions.

The current work-around is to pull the transaction reports for each account and use the Gross amount from those reports in Excel to link back to the Schedule C report.

  12. AU Tax - print return with option to exlude table items from worksheets

Update from Xero function in Xero Tax imports all ledger items into the worksheets in the financial disclosure section which looks untidy and provides too much information when presenting to the client. A good option would be if we could summarise these items in the worksheets, which would be far more presentable.

Hi Claire, thanks for your interest in this idea. Although we haven't enabled the option to exclude a balance sheet from sole trader accounts within Xero HQ we wanted to share this very exciting update with you. We recently released a direct import of the P&L from Xero onto the self-employment worksheet within Personal Tax, without the need to map the account codes and generate a set of sole trader accounts.

Previously we only supported an import from Sole Trader Accounts to Personal Tax which for some of our partners involved an extra step, particularly for smaller clients who typically only receive Income & Expenditure accounts. We hope by adding this functionality that you will be able to maximise the more flexible reporting capabilities within Xero to produce accounts for sole traders. This new feature is not simply an import either, it also supports cash-basis, allows you to manage the…

  14. Provide the ability to import/refresh the clients refund bank account number held with IRD into the Tax Return. Currently seems like we are having to manually enter it on the tax return. MYOB has this functionality and it's great, saves time and typos.

  15. Our existing tax software has a summary page that is automatically generated and goes alongside the CT600 that includes the payment amount, due date, bank details to use and payment reference. I.e. a perfect 1 page summary to give to the client so they know what to pay.
It would be great if Xero Tax could incorporate this into their solution so that the payment details don't have to be sent to the client separately.

  16. A quick individual tax calculator - just requires taxable income and PAYG to be entered - and the tax, offsets and medicare is auto calculated. Tick box for resident, tax free threshold and private health.

Handisoft has a tax calculator that does this - the estimated tax is calculated in 10 seconds. Much better and quicker than the ATO's calculators (and the ATO doesn't do current year - only prior).

  17. Remove CTR validation error for label 10A when entering 0 directly into the main label which is required when using temporary full expensing under the simplified depreciation rules. Instead you are required to create a nil schedule to remove this error and report correctly which is pointless.

  18. It would be great if XPM tax would remove these payment notices for clients where we are no longer filing tax returns for them. Currently they are created as nil payment notices and clutter up an already very busy tax payment system.

  19. A way to post partially dormant accounts when moving from trading to dormant within a tax year. Currently in Xero Tax, you'd have to choose between the options 'Active throughout part of the period for corporation tax purposes' where you can only choose when the company started trading. The other option you could select is 'Dormant throughout the period for corporation tax purposes' and then choose the option 'Company has traded in previous period, tax return is required'.

Both options will allow you to create a CT600, however there isn't an option to choose when the company ceased trading or…

  20. This is not a simple feature request. This is a blatant fault with how Xero Tax handles asset figures.

In this particular case we have two accounts in the book-keeping records for CIS tax, because we wish to track CIS deducted by contracted on sales and CIS deducted from subcontractors separately. Transfers are made between the accounts as appropriate when liabilities are reported for payment to HMRC.

At the year end, we want to show this as a single balance. As the net result was an asset at the year end, we tagged both to an appropriate asset type. Instead…

Appreciate your input here, everyone. Our team is aware of the challenges our partners are facing around the auto-reversal of negative balance. It’s on their roadmap to investigate and provide a better user experience.

For the time being, I’ll move this idea into ‘Under review’ status. And when there's movement, we'll make sure to come back here and let you all know.
