Hi everyone, thanks for joining and supporting this idea.
We understand there are a few different use cases for why you'd like to attach a file to an asset within the Fixed Assets register, as well as transactions themselves.
To be upfront our team's current focus, like many areas of Xero, is on upgrading Fixed Asset technology, as we build greater consistency between Xero experiences, making it easier to learn and navigate Xero. Some of these changes may seem minor, but are critical in terms of delivering new and exciting value later on.
That being said, our team is researching what comes next and this is a focus because it is the most supported idea for Fixed Assets right now.
As we continue forming the future of Fixed Assets in Xero, we'll share if there’s any updates.

Hi everyone, thanks for the interest in this idea.
As you can appreciate, user roles span across the entire Xero product so there’s many combinations of permissions our customers want to see us build. Specifically, our reporting product team is very much aware of the challenges with the current permission sets relating to sharing individual reports with different users and are beginning to look into how we might be able to alleviate some of these reporting challenges.
However, at this stage it’s far too early to anticipate or confirm any direction on where this discovery work will lead, but it will inform our next steps. Additionally, as I'm sure you can appreciate there are sensitivities of data access and security. Creating upgrades to user permissions will need very careful consideration. HI Everyone, I posted this 7 years ago, and there was little followup from other users. Xero looks at these, and takes the ideas that have the most votes to see if something can be done, so the more votes we get, the better.
I think as businesses are growing, it has become a problem with internal security that Xero hadn't even thought about, so every time some one votes or messages on here, I get notified, and I am sending it to my account manager.

Pleeeeease Xero - can you do something about this. I am starting to lose clients to MYOB because they have a better user security system. Thats the only reason they are changing. There needs to be the facility to tick a box for payables or receivables reports within the managed user category.
They need access without seeing all the management and financial reports.An error occurred while saving the comment Sharon Bramley

It is important that the accounts clerk cannot see the Financial reports. They currently have access to all business expenses, including the Directors Salaries, and the details of other staff members salaries, by just drilling down into the transactions.
This information MUST be protected and secured from minor staff. There needs to be a set up with password, or a category between Invoice and accountant/manager please.Sharon Bramley

We thank you all for sharing in the idea here, and understand there are many permissions that our Xero customers would like to provide on a more incremental basis. As you'll all know access to bank accounts is available to users with Adviser, Standard or limited access to those with Read Only roles - You can see more of the breakdown in our article here
With much of the teams resource drawn to work on the platform that'll continue to help us with the 'building on beautiful' experience for our customers we want to be upfront that there are no direct plans for altering the user permissions in this space just yet.
User roles and individual permissions within a bank account will be in the limelight once much of the platform upgrades are complete, but this is some way off atm. We'll return to share when there's any…

This issue was raised in 2017 so please can we all keep ticking the security box so that we get one huge vote for this.
They only look at the items with the most votes, so please search for a suggestion rather than starting another one. thanksSharon Bramley

HI Everyone, I have been in touch with Xero admin today, and they advise that this is a feature that they WILL NOT be looking at, anytime soon, nor in the future. So if we want user security, we will need to change to another accounting package. Xero was only ever developed for small family or one man band businesses, and is not capable of changing or growing to meet business growth requirements. This is really disappointing, I submitted this discussion 7 years ago, and they still refuse to look at a solution.
