Hi team, apologies we jumped the gun a touch on the idea here.
Like previously mentioned, right now you can attach documents and links, set flexible workpaper periods, and use basic calculation sheets in the new experience.
Currently our team are exploring how we might further enhance Workpapers with variations for tailored templates, and support direct importing of reports to improve the way data moves across your compliance steps. We'll share as we have more updates for you around this.

Hi everyone, we appreciate how quickly this idea has picked up traction from the community here.
As you've likely heard through other communications we're in the midst of rolling out a unified Client experience as part of our wider Xero Partner Hub.
With the new Client experience you can now;
- Create a client without a TFN, as the Create Client flow has been updated to capture only the basic details
- The TFN can be added later by clicking Edit once the client is created.
- If you do try add a TFN that already exists on an archived client, an error message is displayed - you can get a view of what this looks like in my attachment
Thanks again for sharing with us here and I'll be back to confirm when this new experience is live to all practices.

We're interested to understand the interest in being able to add multiple emails to a clients record, for the purposes of setting these up for different purposes.
It would be great to hear more detailed feedback from our partners on the particular purposes you'd want to set up emails for and how this would help you through Xero's practice tools. Thanks!

We are revisiting our process and this would be something that would save us heaps of time. Would be amazing to have WPs for ITRs like we have for FINs that link up to the CTR/TRT/PTR.
With over 3000 ITRs to complete each year, having WPs for ITRs would save us double handling the file and would give us so much efficiency gains from start to audit.

We are revisiting this again and would love to know if there are any updates on this! We have about 3000 individual clients each year to do. And we feel like currently we are having to double handle the work. Currently doing a workpaper then transferring the information over to Xero where if the WP and Xero were connected like FINs are, this would be so much easier. We are currently exploring other options out there that could streamline this and remove the double handling.
It would also be great to have a notes section in the WPs so the accountants can add notes based on their discussion of each section then an audit section for the final approval incase there are queries or push backs from the internal auditors/partners/managers.

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback on this idea, community. We appreciate that having to manually select attachments on every invoice can feel a little fiddly. We get that you want a smoother workflow, that saves you time.
As noted by others in the idea, one option for now would be to add standard files, like your terms and conditions, directly to your invoice template. That way, they'll be included automatically when you send out your invoices.
To confirm how this functionality currently works - this is based on the user and driven by the last invoice that was sent. Where you have files attached, and you had selected to include files as an attachment when emailing the invoice, the next invoice you send with file attachments should have this selected by default.
A caveat to this is when you are working in incognito mode, or refresh your browser…

Yes please! We have clients that are after this. They usually send receipts with an extra pdf after 50% deposit for the next steps, then an after care attachment when fully paid and installed.

Having workpapers integrated directly into individual tax returns, with expenses prepopulating into the relevant fields, would be a huge win. It will reduce manual work and improve accuracy. This will eliminate the double handling our accountants currently face. They are currently completing external workpapers and then manually re-entering each expense into the ITR. I know this capability already exists for CTRs, TRTs and PTRs, so it feels like a natural next step to extend this to individual return workpapers.
As a tax agent, having all workpapers roll into the tax return within a single platform would also be a massive efficiency gain, with comments, changes, and reviews all happening in one place.
I’d be more than happy to liaise directly with someone at Xero to help shape how this could roll out, share practical ideas from our day-to-day experience, and provide insight from both a tax agent/internal audit and review perspective, as well as from the accountant input side.
