Hey everyone, thanks for all the votes and feedback on this idea! Our product teams have definitely taken note and understand the effort involved in automatic report generation and sending.

While it's something we see as valuable in the long run, it's not currently on our development roadmap with a specific timeframe. We're still keen to hear from those of you who would find this feature helpful, so please keep the conversation and votes coming. We'll be sure to update you if our plans change.

So I finally jumped in to look at the $yft platform.

Point 1 - I wanted 3 regular reports to export from Xero. Syft has none of these:

    - An up to date invoices list with status of payments
    - A list of invoices in draft status but unsent
    - A list of creditors with late payments.

Funnily enough Xero has all 3 of these reports available already. But you don't let me generate a .pdf and email it on a schedule.

You don't let me generate a .csv or .xls and email it on a schedule.

So I have a manual task which is the complete opposite to what Xero promises in its marketing and its own mission/vision delusion.

So Xero has the functionality to generate a .pdf and the functionality to export a .csv (A) - we see it in invoicing and reports modules.

And you have email functionality to attach a .pdf to an email and send it (B - in invoicing module). I would like to think that your amazing coding team can make the jump and do the same for a .csv (C).

SYFT is NOT solving this problem. Even If I pay more for it (at least from what I can see from the existing platform)

XERO is NOT solving this problem. (i'm going to say that the coding team says yes they can, that the customer experience team says yes we should, but the customer revenue team says - lets leave a few pieces of functionality out that is sufficiently annoying that it drives customers to pay more at some time in the future). If $yft was that moment then you just crashed and burned.

Please Put A + B + C together, INSIDE XERO. I am sure your summer interns can put the code together in maybe a couple of days and you could release it to us by Christmas.

Or maybe I just transition my US entity across to QBO - like the rest of the business is running and the experiment on XERO can be closed.

@Philip Colfox and fellow .pdf users. It doesn't seem to have a separate pricing structure. From what I can see you need to have the Xero "growing" subcription or higher to be able to access the export functionality.

I had a quick look into the Syft platform and it didn't seem to have reporting across all business aspects (I particularly want invoice lists) and there was no report/heading for that. But it was only a 2 minute scan so heres hoping.

Invoicing starts monday I'll report back if someone else hasn't already done a deeper dive.

Sorry to let all Xero users know, but we aren't going to get this sort of flexible data interchange outside the xero platform.

Why? Because in this new age of enshottification, you will either need to sign up with more users to be able to access the reports in Xero, or you will need to pay a monthly charge for a third party app to be able to email reports.

Software companies don't do upgrades now unless you pay them (forever) for thos upgrades.

I have been watching this request for close on 2 years. Zero progess speaks volumes about so called beautiful accounting services.

Sadly such a simple request is being denied? Why because it is a user feature that prevents Xero from locking-in/controlling your data and being able to charge for 3rd party integrations.

Yet another example of the Enshittification of the internet. Even from a company like Xero that did so much to make things better.

As the pressure to continually maximise profitability hits senior management, they have to start erecting (or in this case, not removing) little barriers that make the service shittier for customers - unless you pay them more in some way.

Do better Xero! Don't become a Quickbooks.

Surely this is a mistake. This must be available already. QBO legacy user here - assessing Xero for a new entity. Do I have to go back to manual reporting??

Appreciate you raising the idea, Emma. To round back and confirm current functionality - If needing to send emails for invoices to multiple customers at once you could use the email feature from the contacts list view - See our Xero central article for detail on this.

If it's something you'd commonly do you may like this article in helping you set up email templates where you could create and save a custom template that you'd use when sending an overdue invoice.

It'd be good to hear if there is detail that this method doesn't help you resolve, that we can share back with our product team.

Hi team, thank you for your support and ongoing engagement in this idea. We understand the benefits some customers would find in being able to add notes or a free text field to invoices so you can add additional detail for your customers.

Being open, this isn't something we have in our roadmap atm, but will continue to consider for future enhancements.

    For the time being, a couple of options that may be useful;

    • Using only the description field of a line item to add additional details
    • For more static messaging you could add the details to the payment advice of a standard template, or
    • Add static text with an advanced template editing the template with DOCX

We appreciate this is not the complete solution and will continue to keep a close watch on this idea and share if there are any updates, here.

Agreed absolutely. Ability to describe the build-up of the quote. Adding payment details. Surprised its not available.
