Hi community, some time passed since our last update in the thread here we do want to return and share - while our product teams explored possibilities for how we might represent Purchase Orders in Projects research has confirmed that there is underlying work needed to the platform Purchase Orders are built on before we can achieve any good outcomes of your needs here.
We have enthusiasm and a close eye remaining on the support for this, but want to be honest that this is not something that we’ll be able to focus our attentions on in the near future.
Once we have completed work first needed in the Purchase Orders space we can reassess how to integrate purchase Orders into Projects and will update you all of steps forward, here.An error occurred while saving the comment

Hi everyone, we appreciate wanting the ability to assign files to the project itself. While this isn't something we have planned right now we'll keep tracking the interest through the idea here.
To highlight, though not currently available on the Project directly, it's possible to attach files to the individual transactions within a project e.g a Bill, Invoice, Spend money or Expense. i
Along with this, you may also find it useful to create folders within your Files library where you can collect all files related to a specific project for ease of reference.
Understand this isn't the ideal solution, but may help some for now 🙂

Enhancing Xero’s project management capabilities by enabling users to attach files directly to projects would deliver significant value, particularly for organizations managing complex itinerary projects with large groups. This feature would allow critical documents—such as travel briefs, specific travel requirements, and familiarisation reports—to be stored securely and contextually within each project.
For project managers and teams, this means instant access to the latest information, reducing the risk of miscommunication and lost documentation. Centralizing files within the project workspace streamlines collaboration, allowing updates and changes to be shared efficiently. This is especially important when coordinating logistics for large groups, where details are intricate and subject to frequent change.
From an operational perspective, this functionality would support compliance and audit readiness, as all supporting documentation would be organized and easily retrievable. It would also enhance financial oversight, enabling expenses and requirements to be tracked and matched to specific project activities.
By integrating direct file attachment into Xero projects, you would transform the platform into a comprehensive command center for itinerary management—empowering users to deliver seamless, well-documented experiences for every participant. This improvement would not only strengthen Xero’s value proposition but also address a real need for organizations seeking efficient, transparent, and collaborative project management.

Introducing the ability to raise purchase orders within projects or assign them directly to projects would be a game-changer for Xero users. This feature would eliminate unnecessary manual steps, streamline the entire process from service receipting to proforma invoice handling and bill entry, and ensure accurate project cost allocation. By improving efficiency and reducing errors, it would save valuable time for businesses, enhance visibility of project expenses, and strengthen Xero’s position as a leading solution for integrated project and financial management. This functionality would not only improve user experience but also deliver tangible productivity gains for organisations.
