Hey everyone, thank you for all your feedback. We’re on a long journey to provide more granular access and controls within Xero features that our customers need.
As you may have seen in some of our recent updates across other user roles ideas we’re currently in the process of adding more permissions within Reporting and Inventory. Further to this our research has highlighted Payroll and Banking as areas that more controls are most needed, and are on our agenda as we continue to develop permissions and access to features.
Your feedback here and through direct engagements with our teams have been extremely insightful, and we appreciate all your inputs.
I'll continue to provide updates on the development of roles for features as we progress.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. We understand the need for more flexibility around who can create and post manual journals. A dedicated approval workflow could make it easier for teams to delegate journal preparation.

Hi there, thanks for sharing this idea about allowing users to view bank accounts and the Reconcile tab without being able to reconcile transactions. Thanks for letting us know how separating visibility from the ability to make changes could help businesses delegate banking tasks while keeping tighter control over financial actions. We’ve opened this idea for community support so others can vote and add context. This will help us understand the broader need and gauge the impact for other Xero users.
We’ll continue to monitor the feedback and engagement on this idea and update the thread if there’s more to share.

Thanks for sharing this idea and for letting us know you’d like to give a user access to view all previous invoices and create new invoices, without giving them permission to approve invoices 🙂

Hi Heather, due to the impact that this feature can have on an organisations transactions and reporting Find & Recode has always been limited to a user with Adviser now called Administrator role.
I want to be upfront that we don't have any plans of making this feature generally available as part of the standard user role.
However, I've slightly changed the title of your idea to request this as a separate controlled permission. We'll get a wider feel of interest around this here.

Thanks for raising this, Reshma. We understand the request for more flexible View Only permissions, so access could be limited to specific areas.
I’ve updated the status to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking community interest. What would you want to be able to include or exclude when setting up Viewer access?

Hi Aarush, thanks for raising this suggestion. We understand the request for Tax tab access to follow the client permissions assigned to each staff member. This could make it easier to manage access to sensitive tax information across practices with different teams and responsibilities.

Fully granular per-action permissions. Period. Take note of Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise user permissions. They are extensive. They are necessary. User permissions should be customizable not just a few levels.
