Ability to issue progress payments on quotes /invoices to percentage claim certain items or expenses.
Purpose: Users can see the progress of the payments from their customer just from one invoice instead of sending separate invoices.

I probably won't be switching away from QuickBooks thanks to Xero lacking this completely essential feature. I mean seriously a creative freelancer, I do pre-production, shooting and editing for my clients - You expect me to bill for all of this in one invoice? Progress invoicing is an essential feature.

Critical so we don't send multiple invoices

I used Quickbooks when I first started business in 2004 and it had part payments/progress payments payments back then, yes 20 YEARS AGO 😱 and used MYOB after that and also Reckon, which all have this available yet Xero don't care!!
@Xero Team, why are you NOT listening? It's a real basic requirement for businesses to have. Very hard to explain to my customers details of their job they are being invoiced for when they can't see it on one page!

I think Xero has raised its prices 3-4 times while I've been waiting for this feature that Quickbooks has had for years. Even allowing a customer to make a partial payment would be amazing. Quickbooks has this too.

This feature is essential to the building and construction industry and we would love to see it featured on Xero

New to Xero and I'm a bit confused, is this feature available in Projects? I see this post here suggesting that this feature already exists. https://central.xero.com/s/question/0D53m00008CRWBMCA5/can-i-create-a-staged-invoice

Projects is not really an appropriate name without this function. It's how so many businesses run. It's in the book keeper version but I am not a book keeper. It really only needs to be very basic.

This is extremely important. The lack of this feature in the software may force this company to look into another software package. Currently, we have to send out 3 invoices, or undo payments to make it work.

Amanda,
Carry on. Xero doesn't care about the needs of their customers.

For every sale we have, we receive deposits, and then progress payments. The lack of ability to properly apply these to the invoice WHILE STILL being able to adjust the invoice, as it will change 90% of the time, is INCREDIBLY important to us.

Yes, I have done repeat invoicing. The problem lies with numerous items on the invoice having to be split into how many repeats needed. An option of dividing all items on an invoice by the number of repeats. Or number of months payments are being made over. As Some invoices are well over 45k with seasonal income clients (farmers), payments can be necessary over 2,3,6 or 12 month periods. Though this is a type of fix ,it should be one invoice that is then divided and sent at predetermined payment times as the sales on repeat invoicing is calculated at the time of the repeat invoices, not the first invoice, which may be in the quarter that is in a certain tax year etc, so its far from Ideal.

HI I understand that we can't receive partial payments toward an invoice? Is this correct?

This Is something that is massively missing. We require this feature every day!

This is how lots of businesses operate, take a deposit, progress payment and final payment, why it this soooooooo hard for Xero to understand?

I can't believe this is still not a feature. I have clients who want to move to Xero but won't because of this. It's super easy to do in other softwares, so they may as well stay with them. Clearly Xero don't need additional customers.

I've had multiple clients approach me about this issue now. They would really like to see the ability to either bill a percentage or at least a lump sum of a task in Projects as a progress invoice.

We have multiple clients using Xero Projects and a couple of these are builders. The deposit function is used for initial payments, however when progress payments are required they are not able to enter another deposit invoice. This would be helpful as they need to have multiple deposit/progress payment invoices to be be able to bill at each stage.
