Tax: Ireland Tax - Irish Vat Return & RTD Details
Ability to produce accurate Vat reports suitable for the Irish Revenue Commissioners.
Purpose: Irish users can file their VAT easily using Xero.

Hi everyone, thanks for your interest and good to see how we can be expanding capabilities for our users across the world.
While we don't have plans of developing this in Xero, we have recently partnered with Parolla to offer a connected plug-in to your Xero organisation at no additional charge to users with an Ireland based org.
Connected to Xero, Parolla will generate VAT3 returns for direct upload to Revenue Online Services, as well as generating Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) compliant payment files - Find out more here

Mark, what will you switch to?
I am waiting for a clean year end and I am out as well.We may as well have a discussion here about it, nobody is reading these comments anyway apart from ourselves...
Can we have a new topic discussing how good other packages are VAT and RTD...
Anybody use Big Red Barn?

Completely agree, simply not good enough for Irish VAT. The subscription has more than doubled in price since I signed up in 2019 and still does not have this basic functionality. We'll be making the switch shortly - fed up.

Hi all. Sure we may as well be beating our heads off the wall. Not enough of us and not a priority. This software is the same as when I was introduced to it in 2019.... , @Kelly Munro, tell me how exactly Xero have added any functionality to any part of the Irish VAT (Sales Tax) reporting? ...that is usefull for VAT and RTD...
Helena along with others and myself have said Parolla need Xero to make the request.
Many thanks.

Hi Kelly,
Parolla does not have a plug in for RTD which is also necessary to file at year end - can you tell us when this plug in can be expected as it is a basic request if they can generate VAT 3. Parolla states that xero must request this and as of yet have not done so?? thanks

Parolla.... are waiting for Xero instructions...read the comments below........
XERO have upped their charges and ask us to pay the same rate here in Ireland for a product that does less than in other countries... what a shower... Pull the plug on them... I am out as soon as year end is done....

Urgently Need This Function - Can't see why such an issue ;-(

We got around this issue by downloading the yearly "sales tax" report by "Tax rate". It as close as it gets, however you do need to have your tax brackets and rates set up correctly. Domestic, EU, non-EU all set up by %, and all transaction allocated correctly and up to date which we luckily had.

Parolla doesn't provide the RTD report. According to Parolla, Xero needs to instruct them to offer this functionality. It is a real limitation of Xero for Irish Xero users.

Thanks for improvement!
Still RDT Report badly needed...Thanks!

Adding my voice to this. Currently, the reporting for Irish VAT is not ideal and really needs to have the proper functionality added. Competitors such as Sage have had the ability to run RTD reports for years now.

How long before Parolla will be able to generate RTD reports please?

EU VAT reverse charge system could be just copied from the UK version. Just add option for Tax type (Sales, Purchases, ... Reverse Charges, Moss Sales etc.) in advance accounting, tax rates and edit tax rate or create new tax rate. We need proper VAT reports as well, which could easily handle reverse charge mechanism, zero VAT on invoices, but standard rate appear on VAT reports for self accounting of VAT to comply with VAT3 form filing.
It would be nice if you implement ROS (Revenue online system) communication (simmilar to HMRC filing in UK), so the VAT3 could be filed through Xero in the right boxes in VAT return. It shouldn't be big deal, there are only 8 boxes in Irish VAT return.
VIES return would be great help as well. VIES return periods differ from VAT return periods.
Thank you. -

The Irish setup is so similar to the UK right now that it is almost a copy and paste job. If they wait longer, the UK will start to deviate more so now is a good time for xero to make the break. They must realise that there is a wealth of Irish companies out there, who have international exposure, who would use it

Ireland Tax - Users in Ireland are using Xero Global which does not have the VAT module. Our tax operates similar to the UK model. Ability to close off transactions on a VAT return for the Xero Global users.

Hard to advise clients to use Xero without the ability to prepare Irish VAT3 and RTD reports without workarounds.

I work with many clients like most on here I am sure. They are UK based save for 1 in Irlenad using Surf which is terrible. We want to move to Xero but if compliance is an issue this is going to be difficult. All the functionality in the world can not pull you across the deep red line of Compliance!!

I write software....features are based on priority...Irish Vat isnt a priority for Xero....just look at the bank feeds...the knew what was coming down the line and draged their heels....
I can tell you that the Irish VAT calculation is very simple provided your vat rates are set-up correctly. the software can run a custom report and push out the numbers for an Irish VAT bi-monthly and an RTD.....
Xero it seems isnt interested according to my accountant who Reps for Xero and set-up Xero for me initially. Now after he had advised me to go to Xero, he is advising a better platform.....due to a backlash from his clients due to the bank feeds issue....

Even as a Xero Partner the lack of an Irish VAT report always is an issue when try to advise other clients to use Xero.
