BAS - Undo a failed Activity Statement lodgement
There needs to be the ability to undo/unlock a submitted ATO Activity Statement when lodgement has failed with the ATO and it has been rejected. When submitting an Activity Statement with a variation, they are often rejected by the ATO as the ATO recaclulates its own amounts and the submitted AS is rejected. This results in an AS that is listed as "Failed" un the Needs attention section of the Activity Statement page. There is currently no way for an end user to undo the failed AS to correct any issues for resubmission.
The failed statements now remain in the lists and cannot be corrected. Please provide a button or option to return the AS to a draft or reset state.
Hi community, as promised I'm back to confirm that the ability to revert a failed business activity statement back to draft is now live to all users.
Now, if your statement has failed to lodge with the ATO, you'll find an option to "Revert to draft" in the 3 dot menu icon next to the failed statement. When selected, the statement will be reverted to Draft status allowing you to correct it and re-lodge to the ATO.
Thanks for your input for this change 😁

Being able to amend a previously lodged bas linked to Ato portal is very important . Business records should match Ato lodgements , thanks Xero for working on this.

Being able to lodge an amended return from Xero would also be helpful. The ATO wont allow me to revise online without calling them, to get an amended report in Xero I had to revert previous BAS experience and publish so I had documentation of the amended BAS in Xero relective of the ATO.

Missed a 'not' - should be 'not representative'

The issue I had was fixed on the ATO's side over 2 years so still seeing it in Xero is at the very least annoying and representative of the actual status.
I suggest that there should be an option for the user to take responsibility and close the issue which should then not show up again. If it has not actually been resolved (for some reason) then that is on the user, not Xero. -

If you use the fix proposed by Xero it simply publishes a report and as such there is no trace in the activity statements reflecting the actual ATO lodgement.
The fix proposed by Michael is a great solution -

I absolutely agree

This is so obviously needed I'm shocked that it hasn't been implemented. A failed BAS now needs manual workarounds to submit directly on the portal, and now I no longer have a record in Xero that matches the ATO records. I don't know why Xero spends efforts on minor tweaks (all those "new reports" being forced on us) instead of actually fixing the things that make users life difficult. I want my accounting software to be useful first before making it beautiful

I agree, my bas failed due to a connection issue at the ATO end.
Failed BAS Lodgement - CMN.ATO.GEN.200001
I had to lodge manually, but instead there needs an option to reset the flag and allow the user to re-submit.

I agree, Xero should not be able to provide a feature if it is reporting incorrect information especially if it is regarding legally required reporting.
If a client logs into xero and sees failed they would presume it has not been lodged?
Xero should remove their link to the ATO if it does not report accurate information

I absolutely agree. Failed activity statements should be able to be resolved one way or the other.

This is a critical feature. It really is a job half done not being able to make this correction.

3 year old BAS still sitting as failed. Drives me nuts every time I see it. Half tempted to go back to lodging through the ATO portal.

Totally agree this needs to be an option to be able to remove these failed statements. Very frustrating to log in to lodge a bas and have RED FAILED for irrelevant past BAS returns!

I have a failed BAS lodgement and had to lodge it on the ATO website.
It doesn't look right sitting there with a red failed on it
