VAT Reconciliation - Ability to view tracking category
Adding tracking categories to VAT return/reports:
I would like to run a VAT return/report per quarter to be shown by tracking category rather than as a whole. There is not an option on the current VAT report to add the tracking categories, therefore I think this would add benefits to any client that uses tracking categories for departments.
Thanks for your response, Jordan. Can see why the Account Transactions report won't fit in this scenario.
To be upfront we don't have current plans around this with much of our reporting teams focus on change in the new reporting framework in lead up to removing older reports in July this year - More on this here
I've slightly amended the title of your idea and we'll feel out the interest for this here and update if any change is planned.
For now if not already, I'd highly encourage sharing link to the idea here with your clients and colleagues that'd like to see this to support, too.

This would be extremely useful and I believe an easy programming update as it is just one column.

This would be a helpful addition as Jordan has mentioned.

It would be helpful to have tracking categories on the vat report as we would like to use them to identify different input vat items for partial vat requirements.

It would be helpful if the "by tax rate" report could show tracking categories next to invoice references/details. This would help where clients don't always use the correct tax code but use the tracking category to identify properties to which costs relate.

As with Jordan, we also have clients who use tracking categories for business divisions - and absolutely the account transactions report only goes so far to identify the appropriate balances per division. The late claims as mentioned are the issue here and so there has to be a lot of manual reports outside of Xero to enable accurate analysis. This would be so easy to add - it is merely a filter not a link of data - each transaction is already lined to any appropriate tracking category.

Hi Kelly.
We have a number of client's that use tracking categories to split different divisions of their business. Currently they are using nominal codes (adding references to the nominal), but this still requires manual intervention which is time consuming.
The issues with account transactions and filter is that this only picks up the transactions in the VAT period, so late claims are excluded from this report, again requiring manual intervention this way.
I have spoken with other Xero users and clients, with the majority saying it would be useful for any Xero client that uses different divisions via tracking categories.
A potential solution to this would be to simply show the tracking categories within the detailed report of the VAT return. The user would be able to export this report to excel and can then apply filters to split the VAT return with ease.
Let me know your thoughts.
