New Invoicing - Use Tab to confirm highlighted suggestions and move across fields
Currently: In new invoicing we are provided with suggested items when completing fields such as "To:".
Using Enter at this points selects that highlighted suggestion, but using Tab ignores the highlighted item.
Request: Enable Tab to be used in new invoicing to confirm a highlighted selection. The same function as Enter currently provides within this context.
Tab is an active keyboard option in other areas of Xero such as Bank Reconciliations so this would keep the UI more consistent.
Hi team, we recently made a change to the tabbing behaviour, so now when you tab to a field and highlight an option, tabbing to the next field will hold the selection that was highlighted.
For example pressing Tab in the 'To' field will hold the highlighted contact, and move you onto the 'Issue date' field.

New Invoicing
Hi, why should we send you new ideas to improve an invoicing system. We don't care about your platform you are using we just want the full functionality of the old invoicing system. We need to be able to tab across and type in dates etc. Any drop down lists and mouse clicks just extend the time to input any data. This new invoicing falls far short of any improvements and there are no time saving elements in it yet - it takes 3 times longer to do the same in the new invoicing as the old invoicing so you really need to get the new invoicing improved. It takes 3 hours to enter my clients monthly sales and receipts. We will not be using Xero if this increases to 9 hours. We are looking at other options to Xero now because this will not be sustainable. -

When adding an invoice and a contact has been selected, the user must press ENTER instead if TAB to select that contact as the invoice recipient.
So if the user types 'bay', selects one of the Bayside contacts then presses TAB, a new user 'bay' is added WITHOUT asking the user to confirm.Classic invoicing works as expected - when the user types 'bay', selects Bayside Club then presses TAB, Bauyside Club is shown as the recipient (see screen shots attached).
To select the Bayside contact the user must press enter. This is different to just about anywhere else in Xero (and expected behaviour of a User Interface). Also, there is no provision for a user to CANCEL the invoice. There is Delete in the overflow menu but it does not seem to do anything and is definitely not intuitive.
Both of these problems really should be fixed to make the look and feel the same as Classic invoices and avoid the frustration of having unwanted contacts and the probability that emailing the invoice won't work as expected (I have not tested this).

+1
It's how the old invoicing system works. Tab is such an instinctive and universal way to move through fields in a form. So simple and obvious to replicate, I'm surprised they've missed it. -

This is one of the reasons the new invoicing fails to meet the current Web Accessibility Standards. Which is a disability discrimination issue, and a potential legal liability for Xero.

In legacy invoicing, you could start typing your contact, tab to select it & move across to the date field, where you could type the date in. Now, it seems you have to click on the date field, select the existing date & type over it, or click "pick another date" and select the date on the calendar?

Agreed! With the legacy invoicing I would always tab across fields, now having to hit enter then click on the next field is clunky and slows things down.
