  1. Xero in US. Most of my bookkeeping and accounting clients want me assist in doing their business and personal tax returns, I do so by gathering and ensuring all docs are accurate and included. I have been partnering with a licensed tax preparer for 10 years, successfully. For reasons, I am now looking to move to a new preparer. I have found one I have worked with for several years. I introduced her to Xero some time ago, as she uses QBO, and doesn't care for it. However, QBO integrates with Pro Series tax software, a big plus. Xero doesn't…

Hi David, thanks for sharing this idea!

Xero has an open API so anyone can develop an integration for it, without providing us with supporting documentation.

As this is the case, we'd recommend reaching out directly to the software provider themselves, to suggest they build a Xero integration.

  2. MYOB vs Xero

    Hi there

We recently had a MYOB training and we found the following features are very impressive and wonder when will Xero start looking into these features for us?

*Consolidate P&L - able to consolidate different businesses in one P&L (all you need to do is tick the client file)

*Once P&L is consolidated, GL is also consolidated. Easier for inter-entity loan account matching.

*Layering - MYOB's P&L layout is highly customisable. They call it 'layering'. They have TY vs LY quarter x4 quarters + YTD.

    • Employee self onboarding - using sms to reply and avoid having…

Hi Irene, it's good to hear efficiencies that you find in other software that you'd like to see Xero develop, however I do want to be upfront that we don't intend Xero to be a like for like with our competitors.

I've made sure to share your points here with the relative product teams but with a collection of ideas in the one it's quite hard for other community members to get  understanding of what they'd be adding their support for as well as hard to share the collective interest in a specific change back with our product teams based on your post.

We have some ideas that I've noted below related to items you've noted and you're welcome to add your support to and follow for any updates.

  3. XPM API 3.0 & 3.1 -> Can we please have Schedule Information > Priority to be fetched along with the Job Details?

Otherwise we cannot sort fetched Jobs by Priority..

We can use Custom Fields, but that means we have to fire an API to fetch the custom field for every single job we are fetching from XPM..

    Any idea guys?

    Many thanks!

  4. The format of the 2023 IR 3 return does not appear to allow for a nil amount of FIF income. When nil is entered (which will be the case when the CV method produces loss), an error arises. The disclosure of FIF income (even if nil) may be important for statute barring purposes and will also avoid subsequent queries from IR (once exchange on information between countries lands on IR desks) on why a taxpayer may not disclosed offshore dividend income (where those dividends arose from FIF investments). The suggested fix of amending or notifying through MyIR seems to defeat…

Hi community, though we appreciate your feedback here there are limitations on what combinations of data can be submitted via gateway services and these are set by IR and Xero tax must conform to these rules.

We'd recommend contacting your IR account manager on the best way to file this return data.

  5. I have a custom Income Statement template, but it doesn't display when I try to use the class comparison report.

Hi Bundiono, Common formats are reports that have been developed by our team based on understanding of common formatting options customers would like to run a base report of.

There is no way to apply a common format to a custom report you've saved in your org.

One way to set this up would be to run the Common format report, apply changes to match the custom options of your saved report then save a new custom report.

  6. For deceased individual clients, the period end date for their final tax return needs to be changed to their date of death. The tax return should not still be reporting the entire financial year.

There is a cell where we are able to input client date of death.

Recommending for product team to code this update so the period end date of these individual tax returns are also updated to reflect the Date of death.

Hi everyone, while we appreciate you raising the idea for this here, we want to be upfront that this is not something we're looking to develop.

For electronic lodgment, the ATO's requirements to report the whole year with data of death as an extra field. There are validations and calculations that use this date. This is different to paper lodgment.

As this is the case, we will not make the end date editable.

Hi team, rounding back after engaging with our product team on this. The maximum size upload of a document is set based on the technology we're using for Document Packs (Adobe). At this time there really isn't anything we could do to expand this and will close the idea here to set expectation. Thanks for your engagement.

  8. Can we please have a tab for My Jobs (like the old format). It is much quicker to click on a tab than navigate via filters.

Appreciate the feedback around changes for Job Manager, everyone. Being open we don't intend to allow switching back or access to the old view, however we'll continue to develop new Job manager to make this experience even better for our customers.

If you have access to All jobs you can get a view of 'My jobs' by filtering the All jobs list by Staff or Manager to select yourself. We know this may be something you commonly want to view and you can Save your filtered view to easily access next time you return - see more on this here

  9. Is it possible to revert the new layout on Jobs manager back to the old format - our practice works better with the old screen format - would be good if we had a option to revert back please.

Hi Trish, we don't intend to allow users to revert back to the old layout, but understanding detail of what you got out of the old that'd help in the new view would be great and maybe of interest to others in community here, too.

  10. International Edition Payroll is very basic. Salaries cannot be allocated to any branches or tracking categories. All debits just go to the Expense Head of salaries etc. Also there is no option to add an employee number that would show up in the payroll reports.

Hey Mukhtar, thanks for your post!

We don't currently offer an international version of our Payroll product. Instead, it sounds like you may have accessed the 'Pay Run' feature in Xero

Xero's Pay Run feature is a simple payroll tool you can use to pay a few employees in your base currency, as well as running pay reports and managing basic employee information.

I can confirm there are currently no plans to expand the feature set of Pay Run to include tracking categories or employee numbers as you've described.

I'd recommend checking out our Xero App store, to see if there's a app from one of our app partners that provides payroll in your local currency 😊

Hi Liz, we don't have plans to develop a fully open report builder. But it'd be good to better understand your needs and what you feel is missing from Xero's reporting at present?

Xero's Blank report can be used to create build a custom report from scratch at present and may help here?

  12. With the old Aged Payable/Receivables report, when you clicked on a name for a supplier/customer it took you to a list of invoices both paid and unpaid.

This was super useful to track where client's enter things twice and one is paid, and reconciling to statements.

Now when I click on the contact/name in the new report it only shows what is outstanding.

Going to the contact card to look at transactions is not as helpful and cannot be exported to Excel for further recs with large amounts of transactions.

Pics attached to show difference in reports and how the…

Hi Jarrod, as you've found the new Aged Summary flows through to the detail of outstanding items that are still payable/receivable. Being open we don't have plans for changing this.

Instead, you can view transactions of all these status by running the Receivable or Payable Invoice Summary and Detail reports

Grouping or Filtering by Contact should get you to the same level of data as shown in your image.

  13. Have Bank Feeds available from Nabtrade in line with all other types of feeds. I use Nabtrade for share trading and have a balance that adds interest monthly as well as buying & selling shares.
These feeds are not currently available it but should be arranged with NAB in these digital times.

Hey Ian, appreciate you sharing this idea!

Looks like we currently support most of the NAB Bank Feeds, but as you mentioned there's no support for NABtrade.

Rather than posting here on Product Ideas, I'd recommend using our 'Bank Feed Request form'

This one goes directly to our bank feeds team 😊

  14. Hi There

With the new job manager view we are finding that we have lost a lot of efficiency in the functionality of day-to-day job manager. Previously on the job page (now seen when we click on "mmanaged by", there is the tabulation of jobs due this week and next. Ths was a great tool for job management and workflow whereby we could click on these headers and view the number of jobs for eg due this week and work through these to complete. Now when this is clicked on it takes us back to the new job page full…

Thanks for your detail and sharing on this in Xero Product Ideas, Michelle.

While we appreciate what you're asking, we made a recent update that does impact your idea and wanted to share with you, here.

Recently, we removed the summary table in Job Manager, as all the information shown here is now available in the All jobs tab through filtering and pagination.

    You'll find from the All job tab that you can view Totals, these are located near the Search bar, and bottom of the page where pagination is shown. You can also set filters for the results you've noted;

    • Starting today - by setting a Start Date filter with > Custom date, and choosing today's date from the calendar
    • Due this week - by setting Due date to filter by 'This week'
    • Due next week - by setting a Due Date filter with > Customer date and selecting…

Hi Rochelle, many of our connected app Partners have designed and built their integrations with Xero themselves and are the best to direct any requests to for expansions of their integrations - We'd recommend raising this with SuitFiles support to see if they'd look to expand on this.

@anthony we have a Developer community where ideas for improvements to Xero's API best live - you can find this across here and I'd recommend engaging about this.

Thanks for raising as an idea, Rachel. Appreciate there can be learning involved in adopting tech like this. First checking with our product team in this space, I do want to confirm that this isn't something we're looking to develop for - For an e-signature to be legally binding this needs to be done by the signer themselves.

However, from within the portal there are a range of ways the signer can add their signature, one of these is uploading a picture of their signature. This means the image then becomes part of the adobe backed, legally binding e-signature rather than just an image of the signature.

  17. Payroll Posting

Please could you find a way to post payroll figures to the tax month rather than the calendar month.

The current system poses a problem for employers who pay their employees after the month end i.e. October payroll paid on 5 November. Currently the figures are posted to November instead of October which is frustrating for the employer as it means they need to do a manual journal for the figures to appear in the right month.

Hey Esther, thanks for submitting this idea. Appreciate that seeing the run in the next tax month can cause some confusion.

Currently when you post a pay run, the date on the journal entry will be the payment date of the pay run.

This is intentional, and is required for RTI filing.

HMRC have specific advice for when payroll reports are misaligned with payment dates and tax periods, and you can read more about that here

As such, there are currently no plans to change the ways pay runs are reported to align the payment dates with the previous tax month.

  18. With various data breaches being carried out at present, a client has asked if superannuation fund details can be hidden on pay slips. Similar to a bank account where only a few digits are shown & rest are xxxx.

    Hi Brett 👋

Thanks for sharing your suggestion, and appreciate that you're looking out for your employee's personal data!

There are certain super details that do need to be included on a payslip, and you can read more about them here.

Because Fund name and / or fund number is a required field, we'll shift this to not planned.

  19. It would be great if we could print reports to word allowing simple formatting prior to providing to the client, the download to excel requires significant formatting and while the PDF looks great it doesn't allow for flexibility eg to fit to one page, adjust wording etc

Hi Matthew, appreciate you sharing your idea here however do want to be open that we don't have plans for adding more export format options for reports.

Currently where needing to make adjustments to reports from Xero, you can export to Excel or Google sheets.

Hi Kayleen, you'll find there are quite a few reports in Xero that you can run that will show you your contact activity and payments.

To start I'd recommend the Contact Transactions reports for individuals or the Receivable or Payable Invoice Detail reports for multiple contacts.

Alternatively, there's the Income and Expenses by contact report that could be of use here too.
