  1. Xerosign: Remove the requirement to sign up to a xero account to sign documents.

This frustrates the client and causes so much headaches for us that we have stopped using xerosign and now have to use a third party provider.

Thanks for the idea and support here - We're sorry to hear this has caused some from making use of Xero Sign with your clients.

With the sensitive nature and detail of information that can be shared through document packs - creating an account and logging in is necessary to secure information.

We appreciate features like Document packs allow collaboration with others who might not regularly use Xero for their business - There's a special sign up flow that takes your client through a shortened version of the sign up flow if we detect they don't already have an account.

💡If your client is being asked to create an org as part of the process, it's likely that they've clicked the sign up option at the bottom of the screen instead.

  2. Need the ability to edit staff names in practice manager as we were able to in the past. The new staff screens do not allow this. It is not reasonable to lose the history of that person if we just need to update or fix a name.

We’ll send you updates on this idea

Hey community, popping in with a quick update to this idea.

Earlier this year we made a change to staff names, so they’re no longer controlled by the Practice Admin.

Instead, the Staff name you’ll see in XPM is tied to the User Name, giving the staff member control over how they appear.

We’ve also made a change to the way deleted staff will appear in Practice Manager. They’ll now display a ‘Deactivated’ tag after their name.

From reading the comments, it’s common practice to add a prefix to a staff name (such as ‘ZZ’) to identify them as leavers - this update removes the need for this workaround!

  3. Currently when using the new reports, bookmarking a page in Xero will take us to the specific organisation that the bookmarked screen was in.

But when using the old reports, bookmarking a page in Xero for example Balance Sheet for the year ended 30/06/2022, when i click on the bookmark link it will bring me to the Balance Sheet for the year ended 30/06/2022 for whichever organisation i am working on. This makes it easy when i'm looking at multiple entities.

Since Xero is phasing out the old reports, can you please bring this feature into the new report?

    Hey community,

Thanks for all your feedback on this idea.

As you’ve found, users could bookmark reports and that bookmark would work across organisations. However, this caused some strange behaviour when navigating between organisations in bookmarked reports.

By including a unique Organisation ID in the the new report URLs, the data displayed is consistent with the organisation the report was bookmarked in. The result is that users can navigate away from a bookmarked report, without Xero updating the organisation.

To be transparent here, this was a deliberate change, and there are no plans to re-implement book-markable links to reports.

  4. SIGNATURE PAD

It would be great if you could attach a signature pad to the computer so that a client can sign their Tax Returns on the spot without having to print the Tax Returns for the client to sign.

We love the convenience of digital signatures however some clients don't have their emails on their phone, don't have email addresses at all, or just refuse to sign electronically via email when they can just sign their documents when they are in the office.

We think that having the option to sign an an electronic signature pad, like you do…

Hi everyone, after further review we're going to move this idea to 'not planned' as there are no plans for developing this functionality directly from Xero.

As mentioned in my earlier comments here there are a some apps in our Xero App Store that offer 'signature' based services.

It is best to explore these yourself and how they could aid in your business processes. App partners will be best placed to confirm if they provide capabilities to collect signature through a device with your clients. Thanks

  5. It would be wonderful if at this time of the year income tax returns could automatically be created for the new year, where the prior year is completed and with rollover from the prior completed year.

Having to manually create hundreds of income tax returns is terribly inefficient.

Thanks for your engagement in this idea, everyone.

The team have considered and thought about this in practicality. Tbh we do not have intentions to develop auto-creation of client income tax returns in Xero Tax - In the way Xero tax is designed, bulk rollover would potentially create 000's of returns at once, all appearing in Draft, and as a result would cause lots of noise for users.

It'd also create trouble and confusion in understanding where a client has come back, and what returns are being worked on vs those not started. And for clients that don't come back, you'd be left with an excess of returns in draft, requiring admin to delete.

That said there is a flow that could better accommodate this, and exists today - we provide a 'not started' state as well as recommending clients use the ITCRPT report to manage this workflow.

    1. The client would …

Hi community, thanks for your feedback on this here.
We’re on a journey towards creating more value for you in the long-run, and want to be upfront that we will not be reinstating the XPM app - We've had to make some difficult decisions to remove and change some less-used features, so that we can focus on creating the additional value.
You can still access all the functions of the XPM app on-the-go via your XPM desktop login. Though we appreciate this is a change and isn’t necessarily as convenient, we believe the added value that we're planning to launch in desktop XPM will be a bigger benefit to you in the long run, including more streamlined workflows between our practice tools and additional functionality when managing jobs and clients.

  7. For deceased individual clients, the period end date for their final tax return needs to be changed to their date of death. The tax return should not still be reporting the entire financial year.

There is a cell where we are able to input client date of death.

Recommending for product team to code this update so the period end date of these individual tax returns are also updated to reflect the Date of death.

Hi everyone, while we appreciate you raising the idea for this here, we want to be upfront that this is not something we're looking to develop.

For electronic lodgment, the ATO's requirements to report the whole year with data of death as an extra field. There are validations and calculations that use this date. This is different to paper lodgment.

As this is the case, we will not make the end date editable.

Thanks for contributing your feedback fro this idea, everyone. Though appreciating the thought here, Xero is currently limited in our ability to solve this as the information only becomes available to us on the first of the month.

In lieu, and if not already set up we'd recommend enabling automatic activity statements - You can see detail on this in Xero Central.

  9. I want to see in Hubdoc which receipts have been reconciled in Xero.
Currently there is no way to know which receipts are reconciled with charges from credit card and which are not, except that I re-publish and get an error of not being able to re-publish because the transactions have been reconciled. For credit card reconciliation, NOT all purchases from vendor will be charged immediately

Hi team, thanks for raising your ide with us here. While we appreciate the rationale for wanting the ability to view when a document has been reconciled within Xero, in Hubdoc we want to be open that this isn't something that we have plans for developing into the Hubdoc product any time in the foreseeable future.

Hi everyone, I understand this idea is about WorkflowMax.

Xero is retiring its WorkflowMax product on 26 June 2024 and has entered into an agreement with tech-led business advisory firm, BlueRock, who are acquiring the brand. As part of this, they have commenced plans to offer a new product. BlueRock’s intent is that their new WorkflowMax product, WorkflowMax by BlueRock will be available to customers in early 2024. To reflect these changes we're moving this idea to 'not planned'.

You can read more about this on the blog.

Appreciate the feedback around changes for Job Manager, everyone. Being open we don't intend to allow switching back or access to the old view, however we'll continue to develop new Job manager to make this experience even better for our customers.

If you have access to All jobs you can get a view of 'My jobs' by filtering the All jobs list by Staff or Manager to select yourself. We know this may be something you commonly want to view and you can Save your filtered view to easily access next time you return - see more on this here

  12. I feel like a dedicated feedback board would be useful. As I don't feel there is currently an appropriate place to give feedback and notify support of things that are not working properly.
For example, I have the new GST returns to trial and there was an actual feedback box in Xero. Where i gave the feedback that i liked the new features but not the look. Now the feedback box is gone and I have just noticed that it tells you that there are unreconciled lines to code. But, they are for the next GST period. Plus the old…

Thanks for starting the idea, Sarah. Appreciate that these links need updating.

Checking with our team there are plans to remove these links from within Xero Tax (NZ). Being an external site from Xero, it's possible that these could return an error, each time the IRD make updates to these pages.

To set the expectation here, we'll shift to not planned and I'll round back to confirm once IRD guide links have been completely removed from Xero Tax(NZ).

  15. I would like Xero to be able to read bank statements so we can input historical data when we take on a new client. Some banks (Suncorp) only go back 365 days for OFX exports, so if we take on the client after year has ended we can never get all of the data by OFX and we have to manually enter the bank statements into a CSV file (very time consuming). BGL 360 has the facility and it is brilliant!

Hello Kerry, I’ve checked with the team about your idea here. While we allow customers to import historical statements manually for more than 1 year, the ability to provide OFX files and timeframes of these are determined by your bank, and not something we can control. So we’ll close your idea.

In saying that, we do have an existing idea in the Hubdoc space that’s similar to this one, which is about the ability to convert PDF bank statements into pre-formatted CSV files and is currently being reviewed by our team. Feel free to join in and add your vote there!

  16. We love the idea of linking our Outlook 365 emails to Contacts in our practice Xero but I can't see my colleagues emails and she can't see mine unless we add them to the clients activity. At the moment, we will have to add each email one at a time. The ability to "bulk add" to activity would be a game changer as my other team members would be able to share their emails with us too.

Sorry no one's updated on the idea here sooner. With low partner usage and the big investment required for upkeep, we retired this integration from March 2022.

The app was removed from Outlook meaning you can no longer save emails against client records in Xero HQ.

There are alternative ways of saving emails against client records, which you may want to explore in the Xero App Store

  17. MYOB vs Xero

    Hi there

We recently had a MYOB training and we found the following features are very impressive and wonder when will Xero start looking into these features for us?

*Consolidate P&L - able to consolidate different businesses in one P&L (all you need to do is tick the client file)

*Once P&L is consolidated, GL is also consolidated. Easier for inter-entity loan account matching.

*Layering - MYOB's P&L layout is highly customisable. They call it 'layering'. They have TY vs LY quarter x4 quarters + YTD.

    • Employee self onboarding - using sms to reply and avoid having…

Hi Irene, it's good to hear efficiencies that you find in other software that you'd like to see Xero develop, however I do want to be upfront that we don't intend Xero to be a like for like with our competitors.

I've made sure to share your points here with the relative product teams but with a collection of ideas in the one it's quite hard for other community members to get  understanding of what they'd be adding their support for as well as hard to share the collective interest in a specific change back with our product teams based on your post.

We have some ideas that I've noted below related to items you've noted and you're welcome to add your support to and follow for any updates.

  18. IRD require the Authority to Act to display the Tax Number in full. When creating a word template in SuiteFiles, merging the TaxNumber field from XPM only pulls through the last 3 digits. This is not acceptable to IRD.

Hi Rochelle, many of our connected app Partners have designed and built their integrations with Xero themselves and are the best to direct any requests to for expansions of their integrations - We'd recommend raising this with SuitFiles support to see if they'd look to expand on this.

@anthony we have a Developer community where ideas for improvements to Xero's API best live - you can find this across here and I'd recommend engaging about this.

  19. It would be helpful to some clients if I was able to upload a photo of their signature for them so they can use that for Xero Sign. It would make it easier for the clients who are not so tech savy.

Thanks for raising as an idea, Rachel. Appreciate there can be learning involved in adopting tech like this. First checking with our product team in this space, I do want to confirm that this isn't something we're looking to develop for - For an e-signature to be legally binding this needs to be done by the signer themselves.

However, from within the portal there are a range of ways the signer can add their signature, one of these is uploading a picture of their signature. This means the image then becomes part of the adobe backed, legally binding e-signature rather than just an image of the signature.

  20. Payroll Posting

Please could you find a way to post payroll figures to the tax month rather than the calendar month.

The current system poses a problem for employers who pay their employees after the month end i.e. October payroll paid on 5 November. Currently the figures are posted to November instead of October which is frustrating for the employer as it means they need to do a manual journal for the figures to appear in the right month.

Hey Esther, thanks for submitting this idea. Appreciate that seeing the run in the next tax month can cause some confusion.

Currently when you post a pay run, the date on the journal entry will be the payment date of the pay run.

This is intentional, and is required for RTI filing.

HMRC have specific advice for when payroll reports are misaligned with payment dates and tax periods, and you can read more about that here

As such, there are currently no plans to change the ways pay runs are reported to align the payment dates with the previous tax month.
