AU Tax: CGT - Option to copy and transfer
Capital gains tax worksheet - where an capital assets is owned by more than one person say husband and wife 50:50. If the worksheet has been prepared for one taxpayer, have an option to have this copied/ transferred to the other taxpayer similar to rent schedule.
For property generally there could be just one item but for shares there may be huge number of CGT events.
Hiya team, we had high hopes but unfortunately we've had to put plans for being able to copy & transfer the Capital Gains Tax(CGT) worksheet down for the intermediary.
We still intend to bring focus to this idea over the longer term but will shift this idea back to Submitted for now until we can begin active development. As soon as there's more word to share I'll be back with an update, here

Come on Xero, this is beyond ridiculous! It should be a simple process and clearly accountants want this to avoid wasting time duplicating worksheets. If it can be done with the rental schedule why is it so hard to copy or share a CGT worksheet.

I mean it's not a ground breaking idea. Other Practice Management software have had this in place since I started accounting over 10 years ago.

In response to Kelly's reply, how do you count the accountants as part of your team if you constantly ignore their requests. It's team Xero and that's it.

Xero is a fraud company if you are not prepared to do this.
Its about time some of your clients voted with their feet and moved on, as this "sorry we cant do this", is the attitude of an amateur company.
In fact we will refer this matter to the ATO and see if they are interested in revoking your software licence.
Its about time you grew up Xero and maybe think about using real accountants to help design some of your software.
Right now you are at the point where MYOB was 5 or 6 years ago where they thought they could dictate to their clients what they did and didn't do, and see where they are now, so complacency Xero is something you need to be very careful of.

That is crazy that sharing is not possible! You should be ashamed

This is very disappointing especially since there are no issues with sharing information in the rental property worksheet.
It should be a very simple matter of copying the system from the rental property schedule and implementing it in capital gains tax worksheet.

it's funny that we watched a presentation from xero yesterday showing xero and practice manager integrating and they were so happy showing how produce the information here and hey presto it shows up over and here and here all fully automated etc etc
That's great all looks good then I asked about sharing of capital gains hmmm they said will get back to you on this and referred us to this page to find it's still not possible after almost 4 years of people asking very disappointed -

This is unacceptable. It is a simple function like a rental worksheet two owners of a property and you can list the ownership percentage and off you go.
We are talking CGT worksheets here - specifically for the rental props and shares. Has to be reentered manually by each owner on sale. It is the cost base... DRP's can add up to many many transactions that have to be repeated manually...... The request is not for a copy and transfer it is something that should be intrinsic within your software.
The fact that XERO deems this is not important to tax agents and does not recognise that the manual reentry substantially increases the workload for tax agents shows how you do not listen to practitioners.
Its three years since this initial request and there would have been previous requests shows how long your long term view is - more than likely never.....
Very disappointing

@kelly_munro sorry but thats just not good enough. It is a BASIC function to share rental schedules, why cant the CGT schedule have the same % share function?
Forget about the request from 2022 about copying & pasting, we want the ability to share CGT like rental schedules.
The fact that you have just copied and paste your comment from 4 Jun 2025 and re posted it verbatim 4 Sept 2025, shows your lack of care or interest in resolving the issue.
MYOB shares CGT schedules, has done for as long as Ive been doing this. Get up to speed.
There is enough discontent about this basic function to escalate this request. Happy for you or someone else to look up my details and give me a ring.

Hi Xero Tax,
At the moment you don't have the function to transfer CGT Worksheet or schedule for shared assets (rental property, share portfolio) from one client to another, both using XERO Tax for Tax Returns, once choosing the relevant client and put in the ownership %. It would be more efficient to add this function in. It is similar to shared rental schedule to transfer data across to another owner

It is frustrating that Xero spends time on updating the look of fixed assets (and taking away simple things like being able to see when depreciation was last run, for no discernable benefit from the changes), and doesn't spend time on fixing details like this. If you are going to be in the business of providing Tax software, do it properly!

It’s disappointing to hear this has been delayed — being able to copy and transfer the CGT worksheet feels like a basic function. It’s something we’ve come to expect, and it’s important that Xero continues to keep up with practical needs like this.
Looking forward to seeing progress on it when development picks back up.

This functionality to auto fill the other related tax returns is a good thing.
It saves time and minimizes errors when we have to input duplicates or more copies if CGT event affects more clients.
Hope XERO would not hold this.

Xero we are still waiting and this should have been adopted by now. I commented on this a couple of years ago. This update is essential, easy enough to implement as it is done for a rental schedule and is time saving for us. 30 April 2024 - Xero comments we will add it to under review and its been planned for over the next 12 months. Time is up - maybe you will implement for the 2025 AU Tax returns?
Still waiting.....
