Projects | Tasks & expenses - Ability to group estimated expenses
Xero Projects - Group estimated expenses
It would be helpful to be able to set up categories to group together estimated expenses. For projects with lots of different expenses but of a similiar type it would be useful to be able to group these to more quickly see the various costs of a project. For example, to separate out administrative costs from material costs at a glance, so there would be a 'category' into which we could put tasks, estimated expenses and expenses to distinguish from other major costs while still tracking individual costs against the specific estimate.

Why has my previous request for Grouping Tasks been combined here - these are two different things??

It would be so helpful if when it comes to invoicing, like estimated expenses, you could group Tasks. So that there is just one line item on the invoice.
Staff have multiple labour charge out rates depending on what type of job they are doing, so record their time to multiple tasks. But we only want to show one total Labour cost on the invoice.
The current workaround is to bring through up to 15 lines from the Tasks, manually calculate the total, and remove the additional lines - which then loses the tracking on what has been invoiced.

We have a similar issue. For each project, we would like to see in its dashboard -
1. Total billables by month
2. Overall for each team member (set up under tasks at the moment)
3. Overall for each contractor/consultant (which sits under expenses)
4. Under expenses, we’d like to see different categories for the different expenses types grouped (instead of individual bills):
a. Contractors/Consulting
b. Travel
c. Research
d. Etc.At the moment, all we see is the invoices linked to the project listed under expenses. It would be helpful to be able to categorise and group expenses so we can do into a project dashboard we see at a glance where we are at with the project and the expenses are very clear divided by categories, including consulting/contractor expenses, which are human resources (not material).
Thanks!

I use Xero for a projects based business.
When writing a programme I create that programme based on deliverables. Its logical to create the tasks required to create those deliverables. If we could assign the project tasks into groups, it would help recognise what deliverables they relate to.
I wouldn't expect accounting software to have a perfect match up against programme deliverables, but grouping them would make the logic clear and make the product applicable for more project based companies. Anyone with anything other than simple project needs has to look outside of Xero.
