Xero unfortunately are not interested in helping customers with this. Even their premium version doesn't have project numbers. Project numbers are basic functionality and have been requested for years. I had a long trawl through all the apps that have an API with Xero and found ROLL HQ. It is a project management system that is really simple and integrates with Xero.

We also would like to have auto generated project numbers and agree this should be a standard functionality like invoice/po numbers.
The sooner this will be implemented the better.

Absolutely agree, auto generated project numbers should be basic standard functionality. Wouldn't have thought it would be that hard to implement.

This would be incredibly handy and allow for use of Pivot tables on extracted information.

We are considering XERO, however we would need XERO Projects to auto generate unique Project Number or ID for each project. Would be nice to know if this feature is in XERO development pipe line?

We use Job Numbers in our manufacturing system for each job that is run through our manufacturing plant. It would be great if we could use a project number/job number in Xero that we could match up the manufactured jobs to which may enable more automation of processes.

Project numbers are so basic I assumed when moving to Xero you would have them. You have invoice and quote numbers, why no project numbers. Looking at the other comments how has this not been done. How dpo you manage projects at xero without a number?

This seems so basic to have a field for the project number. This is another reason why I don't think Xero is for us.

I would prefer to use Xero rather than Sage, but not having a field for project number meanst that it doesn't interface with Coretime in the same way that Sage does. Unfortunately, it means Xero is a no go for us.

Surely this field can be added. It is the most fundamental part of project management. Everything relates to a job number. Purchases, labour and post project referencing.

This is very critical for us including generation of automatic project number sequence.

This feature is crucial for my business to effectively utilize Xero's project functionality. Without it, tracking construction project costs becomes too complex. As a result, I may need to explore alternative software solutions for simpler project cost management

It would be fantastic if the field would autogenerate the next number in a sequence as well. Ensuring the numbers are logical and there are no duplicates.

Projects could have been a viable replacement for WorkflowMax, but the lack of this function means it can't be used. I'll have to go elsewhere I think.

I still can't believe this feature hasn't been actioned by Xero. All we need is a reference field box just so we can add a number or name ourselves. Gotta be the simplest of tasks to put this in

We do lots of small projects for one client, so identifying each one by a number that we can match to a job folder of work is crucial!

I have seen lots of discussion mentions about this, and the answer that xero projects is designed to be simple and basic. If it is meant for project tracking then surely a project numbering system is a prerequisite.
