Ability to Read Email Content
Email forwarding to Xero Documents (formerly Xero Files) does not currently capture receipts or invoices embedded within the body of an email. HubDoc is able to do this, and this gap is one of the main reasons I haven't been able to move clients fully to Xero Documents and away from HubDoc.
There is also an issue with setting up automated forwarding from Gmail. Google requires an authorization code to be sent to the forwarding email address before forwarding can be enabled. Because Xero Documents cannot receive or display the email itself, there is no practical way to retrieve that authorization code, making Gmail forwarding impossible to set up.
Many of my clients rely on automated email forwarding from vendors for receipts and invoices. When those emails are forwarded to Xero Documents, I may receive the attachment but cannot see the original email content. This creates a major workflow problem, especially when the email itself contains important transaction details.
If a client forwards something directly and the receipt or invoice is embedded in the email rather than attached, I may have no way to determine what they attempted to send. That then requires additional back-and-forth with the client and, in many cases, manually uploading the document instead.
Improving Xero Documents so it can receive and preserve the full contents of forwarded emails—including embedded receipts, invoices, and authorization emails—would make it a much more viable replacement for HubDoc.
