Depreciation - Ability to add manual depreciation adjustments directly against an individual fixed asset.
I would like Xero to introduce the ability to post a one-off manual depreciation adjustment directly against an individual fixed asset.
At year-end, accounts compliance teams sometimes calculate an additional depreciation adjustment after reviewing the fixed asset register and the relevant capital allowance or compliance treatment. Currently, when this adjustment is posted as a manual journal, it does not update the individual asset record in Xero. This creates differences between the fixed asset register, accumulated depreciation, the nominal ledger and the year-end accounts, making reconciliation more difficult.
It would be helpful if users could select an individual asset and enter a manual depreciation adjustment, including:
The adjustment date
The depreciation amount
A description or reason for the adjustment
The relevant depreciation and accumulated depreciation accounts
The option to specify whether the adjustment should affect future depreciation calculations
The adjustment should update the asset’s accumulated depreciation and net book value, while maintaining a clear audit trail. Ideally, it should also allow authorised users to reverse or amend the adjustment if required.
This feature would help keep the fixed asset register aligned with year-end compliance adjustments, reduce reconciliation differences and avoid the need to maintain separate manual calculations outside Xero.
