Hi everyone, thank you for continuing to share your feedback on invoice subtotals.

We know this is a feature many of you feel strongly about, and we genuinely appreciate the time you’ve taken to explain the impact on your workflows.

While this idea has been closely considered by our product teams we want to be upfront that at this point we don't have any foreseeable plans for developing the ability to add subtotals in invoices.

    As previously shared current options that you may want to explore include;

    • adding a description only line for each section where you can reference and explain the subtotals for a section of lines (leaving the Qty & Price blank),
    • exporting the invoice as a PDF and editing it externally, or
    • exploring invoicing tools in the Xero App Store that offer more extensive services

We know these aren’t ideal substitutes, but they may help bridge the…

Hi everyone, we’ve taken time to review the suggestion to include custom fields for both invoices and contacts, and recognise the value it'd bring in helping users capture more detailed information and avoid manual processes.

However, with other focuses drawing the teams attention such as multiple addresses this idea is not on our current development roadmap.

As we continue to plan future roadmaps, being highly supported this idea will continue to be considered, however we want to be open about it's current position with you all here. We appreciate you sharing your feedback and for your ongoing participation in the Xero community. Any changes to this status will be shared with everyone on this idea.

Man... the invoicing system is still lagging
Please consider giving us extra fields

I need an extra quantity column, so I have number of units hired and number of days.

And subtotals for different categories of items.

We currently resort back to spreadsheets on big jobs, but they're cumbersome and more prone to mistakes.

I'm considering a 3rd party program that can integrate with Xero, basically just for this feature, But it's doubling what I pay per month..

So disapppointing that this feature is still not on the roadmap, 13 years later.

    Requested in 2012
Pages and pages of responses from people saying they need it

We often have to resort to creating invoices in spreadsheets again on complex jobs or filling in extra lines in the invoice to explain the cost breakdowns. This takes time, increases chance of errors and reduces readability for the client.

I read the "building on beautiful" link that a community manager posted here as a pinned response (at the time of writing)

In my case, I hire equipment for events, it's important to know not just the quantity of items, but how many days they're being used for. I'd also love to have subtotals for different areas we're working on. (whether different stages, or dividing up labour, equipment, transport etc).

Custom fields could meet all of the goals of building on beautiful, building simplicity, innovation and accessibility. It's a far more accessible, readable and useful to allow custom fields in an invoice that suit the needs of the client and business rather than the awful workarounds often required.

As it stands, it's a weak and partially implemented solution and without drastic changes, I know it could be so much better.

I need to add "duration" as a column. The ability to have graduated prices for different lengths of time would be an amazing addition too.

eg. 1 day price, additional day price, and long term hire price (per week) or something similar.

But at the very least, a way to add duration, so quantity can be saved for the number of a product I am providing, would help my xero invoices be more streamlined and readable.

I'd be so keen for this

I copped some very expensive fines for being late with my BAS (during a transition period with my business)

    It sucked
I really don't want it to happen again!

I'm totally down for more ATO related notifications!
Bonus points if it can display or link to information about the penalties... :/

Can see what you're meaning here, John. I've made a slight adjustment to the title of your idea that I think might help others identify with. We'll start to feel the interest out here and let you know if there's any change planned.

I'm dealing with this now, it's infuriating.

If I break up the line items on a receipt, so I can categorise them properly (consumables vs equipment assets)

the tax total is out by 1cent vs if xero/hubdoc calculates the GST on the receipts total.

I can't submit the receipt with the tax amounts not matching (and will have to jump through hoops to sort it out)
    It's a bit silly.

Hi team, we appreciate all your feedback here and wanted to share an update as we have a new invoice editor that is being rolled out to all users (already available in NZ, AU, UK and US).

This new editor provides more custom formatting options to help you create invoices that reflect your brand with a side preview so you can instantly see how changes will be shown.

We appreciate that there are additional formatting options that you're asking for here and want to be open that we don't have any plans for providing the ability to edit text formatting in the new editor. We will continue to track votes through this idea and keep an eye on trends so if there are any changes in it's position in the future we can let you know here.

    oh...

I've been on hubdoc for a while now, I just signed up to xero projects in the hopes it would help fill some gaps I find in Xero's features.

This not being integrated, seems like a bizarre omission.

As from what I can see, Xero doesn't really reply to these threads, does anyone else in the comments have recommendations of other tools that could speed things up?

I want to assign expenses to a project, without necessarily trying to bill the client for every little expense.
