Hi everyone, as our product teams keep developing Xero they have been continuing to lean into the forums here to help inform and plan work.
We appreciate the impact this feature could have to those that have supported the idea here - This in mind I'm pleased to share that we're working on expanding the search capability of the Account Transactions page of the bank account to enable users to search by transaction Reference or Payment reference 🙂
As soon as this is ready for you to make use of I'll be back to share with you all! Thanks

This is still valid in 2026.
Now paying more after recent price increases to cover cost of new "JAX" AI features.
Having this feature locked behind tiers which are primarily related to scale of business, when it has literally nothing to do with it, feels very disheartening as a sole trader.

Hi team, thank you for your support and ongoing engagement in this idea. We understand the benefits some customers would find in being able to add notes or a free text field to invoices so you can add additional detail for your customers.
Being open, this isn't something we have in our roadmap atm, but will continue to consider for future enhancements.
For the time being, a couple of options that may be useful;
- Using only the description field of a line item to add additional details
- For more static messaging you could add the details to the payment advice of a standard template, or
- Add static text with an advanced template editing the template with DOCX
We appreciate this is not the complete solution and will continue to keep a close watch on this idea and share if there are any updates, here.

After significant price increases in at least Australia due to the new AI features added, it'd be great if the dev team could please add the text box many have been asking for.
Yes, we can use a line item, but sometimes bunching information into the description field doesn't fit well and it doesn't look great having a $0 product to add a note that's unique to the invoice.

Incase someone finds this and the Community Managers advise "select the bank account you'd like to search" doesn't work.
I had to instead use the coded accounts which the reconciled transaction was filed to (thanks to support staff Anchal).
1. In the Reporting menu, select All reports.
2. Find and open the Account Transactions report.
3. Under Accounts, select the expense account code(s) that your transactions are typically coded to (rather than selecting your bank account).
4. Filter > Columns > Description = Enter text to search/filter by.
5. Set your date range.
6. Click Update.
It's VERY difficult to believe that I now pay $100 AUD per month for Xero, and a raw text file has better search abilities...
Hopefully one day we see the Account Transactions search field, search, the text fields in Account Transactions.
