Hi community, thanks for continuing to engage, and sharing your needs in adding more layers to your chart of accounts structure.
We know especially for some of our US customers that this can sometimes be a show stopper in using of Xero.
Right now, we do have a product team that have begun exploring the efforts that'd be required to implement a change of this nature - while we can't commit to any development at this point we'll share any progression with you all here. Thanks

This is a VITAL element which is sadly missing from XERO.
Having used QuickBooks I'm so very disappointed that XERO doesn't have this very basic functionality
Surely this could be implemented?
If not - can the XERO team post here why?

You can re-order the columns of your report with the layout editor, Robbie. 🙂
Once you've got the report set up as you like you can Save as Custom to easily access the report with this layout.
If you're like to make this the default layout there is also an option for this - see our help here & here

We've only been using Xero for a couple of years, but as time passes it's going to become increasingly more annoying that the default date is earliest first !!! - NOONE WANTS TO SEE THE EARLIEST FIRST - we USUALLY WANT MOST RECENT FIRST - it cannot be difficult to programme the software to default to this preferred setting by default - surely XERO can sort this very easily.

I am almost never going to want to view the oldest transactions first - but the default option is set to oldest to newest. So means I always have to click the date in order for it to show most recent items - not sure why this isn't the default?
It would be so much more useful - please change default for all reports to newest to oldest.
Or at least give me the option to make that the default for my Xero account. Thanks

We understand why this idea is quickly gaining traction. Being able to start typing in the search bar as soon as the contacts page loads would be a small but meaningful improvement.
Right now, the cursor doesn’t land in the search bar by default, so it’s an extra click each time.
This idea's now in the Gaining Support stage. If it’s something that would make a difference to your workflow, adding your vote or comment helps us understand the wider demand—and gives our product team more to work with when prioritising updates.
We’ll post here with any changes or progress.

Definitely agree - I previously used QuickBooks which has this functionality so by clicking on contacts you can just start typing rather than having to do another click before you start. It's a really useful function and I miss it now that the company I work for uses Xero

Hi community, we appreciate your continued feedback on having different default email addresses for various transaction types in Xero contacts, and the manual steps involved to ensure you're communicating with the right person for different purposes.
Currently, one way of managing this in Xero would be to include every additional person on a contact record in emails, and then removing those that aren't required when sending each transaction. However we totally get this isn't the ideal solution.
While being able to set different email addresses for differing transaction types is something we want to address longer term, like the idea for multiple addresses work for this feature requires cross-collaboration between teams in order to achieve.
Once the multiple addresses feature is live this is something we'll be able to consider more closely and provide further updates on.

I agree - tick boxes for invoices, statements, remittances for each contact as many companies have separate email addresses for their accounts payables and remittances
I've attached the email (redacted) which I received this morning requesting that my remittances were sent to a different email address.

Many of our customers pay at the time of making an order. So when we have created the invoice, we will add the payment PRIOR to sending the invoice.
So please add the option to APPROVE & ADD PAYMENT
to the list of options, so that we don't have to continually do 3 x steps ie APPROVE, then ADD PAYMENT, then EMAIL
