    Hi Cody, thanks for sharing such detailed feedback on progressive billing for fixed-price tasks. It’s really helpful to hear how this could support projects that run across multiple stages.

    We’ve reviewed your idea and moved it to Gaining support, so it’s now open for votes and comments from the wider community. If others have similar experiences with fixed-price project billing, we’d love for them to add their voice — it helps show how broad the need is and gives the product team clearer context.

    Thanks again for raising this, and we’ll keep you posted on any progress.

    I think the simple solution Tom Partridge commented on April 16, 2026 4:41 AM is the way to do it. You can already invoice for a partial amount of a task via the quantity field. The issue then is you cannot re-invoice the task, even if only partially invoiced.

    To take this a step further, in the AEC industry it is very common for invoices to show (for each individual task mind you):
    Total fee for the task - example $1000
    Percent complete to date -%50
    $ amount eared to date - $500
    Previous fee billing -$250 (first invoice was for %25)
    Current fee billing $250 (current amount due)

    Having the ability to add these custom fields to a .docx invoice would be a game changer for Xero’s invoicing solutions and go beyond what other similar products (Quickbooks) can offer!
