Xero Projects - Apply sales tax to markup on tax-exempt expenses
Add ability to apply sales tax to a markup on an expense that was tax exempt.
Currently a tax exempt expense (building permit fees paid to municipalities, example $100) are tax exempt. I would markup this expense if paid on behalf of a client (10%, total $110). When adding the expense to an invoice I can either apply sales tax to the entire $110, or mark the expense as tax exempt. I am forced to ignore the markup feature in Xero projects then create a separate line on invoices "Expense markup + HST" which is less than ideal.

Appreciate you raising this, Michael. The suggestion is to allow the markup on a tax-exempt project expense to have its own tax treatment when it's added to an invoice.
