Thanks for your feedback about setting working days for part-time employees, everyone.
We’re pleased to share that working patterns are now in development, with the first release planned for later this year.
You’ll be able to set a one-week work pattern for each employee, which will automatically be used for leave and public holiday calculations in the pay run. For this first release, you’ll still need to update the employee’s pay template separately to reflect their standard working hours.
We plan to build on this by connecting working patterns with standard hours in the pay run and supporting a broader range of working patterns. We’ll share another update as the release gets closer.

Hi everyone, thanks for your feedback and for sharing your experiences with leave requests for employees who work non-standard hours.
Later this year, we plan to release the first stage of Working Patterns in AU Payroll.
This will allow users to set a one-week work pattern for each employee, which will automatically be used for leave and public holiday calculations in the pay run.
This initial release will establish the foundation for supporting a broader range of working patterns in the future, including more complex or changing schedules.
We’re moving this idea to Accepted while we explore how leave requests could work for these employees. Please continue sharing your specific scenarios, as they’ll help inform how we develop this functionality.

This is fantastic news and a much-needed improvement for AU Payroll. Thank you for listening to customer feedback and working on a solution.
One request from our side would be to please consider supporting a two-week working pattern, rather than limiting it to a single week.
We process payroll fortnightly, and a large proportion of our part-time employees do not work the same pattern every week. For example:
Some employees work 0.9 FTE, where Week 1 is a full Monday to Friday schedule, and Week 2 is only four days.
Other employees work different hours and even different days between Week 1 and Week 2.If the system only supports a one-week pattern, these employees would still require manual adjustments for leave requests, public holidays, and payroll calculations, which is the exact challenge many of us are currently trying to overcome.
A two-week pattern would align much better with a fortnightly pay cycle and would cover a significant number of real-world part-time arrangements without requiring ongoing manual intervention.
Please don't limit the functionality to a single-week pattern if possible. A two-week pattern would make this feature much more practical and valuable for many organisations.

The idea is still open and currently gathering support on Xero Product Ideas, so we don’t have a public timeframe to share right now. We’ll continue to keep a close eye on support here and update if anything changes.

Appreciate organisations have different needs and details that they'd collect from employees. It's great to hear you're making use of self onboarding and we'll get a sense of the wider interest for customising this from the community here.
