AU Payroll - Payroll Advisors to receive Superannuation email notifications
Please include all Payroll Advisors in Superannuation bounceback email notifications.
Currently, only the Super approver receives an email notification when any super payment has bounced. Often, the Super approver does not pass this on in a timely manner, and it's not practicable to be constantly refreshing the Super Payments screen to check for any bounces, particularly for Accountants who manage multiple organisations in Xero.
With Payday Super coming in to effect on 1 July 2026, the window for ensuring super is paid is very tight. If only the Super approver is notified, they may not have the ability act accordingly or to pass on this information in time and the employer will be subject to SGC which also creates a mountain of additional paperwork with the ATO.
If all Xero users with Payroll Admin access are notified of bounced payments, there are more people who can know about it and act swiftly to rectify the payment to keep the employer compliant with the new laws.
Hi team, we appreciate the interest here especially with upcoming Payday Super. I'd like to share that notifications and prompts are being developed with some of the changes we're working on, and achieve what's being asked here.
I'll round back when this is live and confirm what these look like to help in your processing of Superannuation here.

Agree Xero software is definately behind the times compared to other programs.
1. There should be more than 1 user able to approve super.
2. All users shoud receive the reject notification.
3. Super verification should be implented when setting up a new employee.
4. My experience, one employee provided an incorrect membership number, it caused the WHOLE batch to bounce back ! This is very costly if it causes an overdue payment as its calcuated on the whole batch value not the one employee by the ATO.
5. Xero's clearing house takes too long to process, around 4-5 days, other clearing houses are only 2 days (Aware Super).
6. Have noticed xero is noting the payment date for wages in regards to pay day super as the last day of the pay cycle, not the payment date, which is usually the following day. Pay day super should start on the date you pay your employee !
Xero needs to lift it's game !!! -

Why can’t we be notified through the clients Xero notifications icon if Super payment fails, or one employee’s super bounces back? Would love to see Super verification confirmation when creating employee record and payrun.

With the new payday superannuation, we need MORE THAN 1 Approver if they away on leave, only they get the SMS message to approve, what if they overseas or without a computer to login..they are on holidays ! need option to add more than 1 Approver and more than 1 person gets notified when super needs approval for payment

Please allow up to 5 Users to be nominated in the event of super payment failure, to ensure important email notification is not missed. This will allow super payment authoriser, payroll processor, bookkeeper, director, accountant etc to be notified. This is especially important post 1 July 2026 (Pay Day Super).

With only the super approver being notified (and that approver only allowed to be a single person), there is a single point of failure. The bus factor / bus quotient is one. For something that has significant legal consequences, this is extremely poor management.
Assume, for example, that your super approver approves the super and then goes on holiday for two weeks, as they are entitled to do. Until they get back, no one is receiving the notification that the super has bounced, and it can't be fixed in a timely manner. Or assume they get sick - it's the same result. Late payment and penalties applied, which the employer has to pay purely because Xero enforced a single point of failure.
