Invoices - Add subtotals
Ability to add subtotals in the invoices.
Purpose: Because some clients are questioning and would like to see more details, and having subtotals can satisfy their needs & wants.
Hi all - thanks for taking the time to provide your votes and commentary on the idea to enable subtotals in invoices. We appreciate how this would make invoicing easier and enable you to provide a clear breakdown on invoices.
As you can imagine with a global product, the variety of ideas we receive is expansive and so the product team focuses on building features that will meet most people’s needs. In the interest of transparency at this stage this idea is not currently planned. However we’re still open to receiving feedback and votes. It could always be reconsidered at a later date.
In the meantime it’s worth highlighting (as a few have mentioned already) a workaround is to generate an invoice as a PDF and then edit the PDF externally. Alternatively our Xero App Store has many invoicing providers who may do this. You can browse the invoice providers here.
We’ll be sure to update you here if there’s any more news on this suggestion.

What the?? What a poor excuse for not having the most basic feature of calculating. Why would you send your customers to PDF or other Apps?? Apparently Xero is the premium accounting software...the more i use it the more frustrating it is. No subtotals, why do quote and invoice numbers have to be different for the same job when accepted? Recurring transactions simplified...a few things that MYOB has covered for the user.

My business needs to be able to provide subtotals on quotes - my customers do not want multiple quotes for each section of a project!!

Cannot believe that such a tiny function still not been added after 12 years! Seriously? Please add this subtotal features ASAP as it is obviously a easy to achieve thing and critical to all invoice users!

Such a big issue that can be simply resolved. Not impressed Xero, very complicated having to use external systems to add something so small. Another dropdown box isn’t hard to add.
For one of your selling points being so easy and user friendly, this has definitely added its complication for us as a business and our many clients.

How many votes will it take to get this on the development horizon? My clients are incredulous that I can 't provide something as basic as subtotals on my quotes and invoices.

+1 to adding subtotals, PLEASE!
I regularly create invoices with many line items and units per line item and not having the basic feature of subtotals, means I spend a lot of time double/triple checking I have the right amounts.
The addition of a subtotal would also make this easy for our customers to view and understand the invoice.
Xero is intuitive in a lot of ways, but this is a real let down. Please reconsider adding this feature, as it seems many would benefit.

This is ridiculous. Show me any business using Xero Invoices that would not benefit from the simple addition of a Subtotal item.

I can't believe this is something that we still need to ask for. Subtotals have been on invoices since the beginning of invoices. This is not an obscure use case that will never be used. It seems like a basic problem to solve. Surely something that could have happened in the ten plus years since this ticket was opened.
When billing large projects, it is not unusual to have items spread across multiple categories billed to different cost centers.

I would love to see an invoice bundle that has 1 line and totals up everything that is included in the invoice rather than itemizing each charge line. This is very useful for my business as I like to break out my services into separate sales categories.

We need summaries within a Quote and be able to show Summary Totals without showing Line Items.
Also we would like the options where a Line Item is not added to the Total of the Quote.
When we invoice the Quote the line items will need to update our inventory.
As our Business has grown this has become critical.

Editing in PDF is a complete waste of time - XERO is supposed to save time - that is one of your selling points.

Count me in on making this the next feature. Yes, it is an absolute necessity for us giving quotes with options far less with various subsections like labour, product, storage and freight etc. Come on xero, get your act together

Subtotals are as old as numbers themselves. How Xero can begin to think they are not required is baffling. -
