Organisation settings - Dark mode
Ability to change darker backgrounds in Xero.
Purpose: White text against a Dark Background, is easier to see for the eyes.

Hi team, while the status of this idea remains unchanged from our last post we did want to provide an update in the channel here.
As shared previously there's the possibility of exploring third-party apps like Google's High Contrast, which allows you to change the colour on your screen so it's easier to read.
Our Xero Accounting app is a bit of a different kettle of fish and for iOS users there is a dark mode available from the 'Appearance' option that you can navigate to from the 3 dot menu in the top right of the app screen.
Though we fully understand and appreciate needs for wanting dark mode, the ability to develop this requires resource from across all areas of product to implement in the web version. Providing dark mode is not on our current roadmap.
If there are any further changes to share we will provide further updates to you on this thread.

I suffer from severe migraines, and using Xero for extended periods can be very challenging due to the bright interface. A dark mode option would greatly reduce eye strain, improve accessibility, and help users like me remain productive. I know many others have requested this feature over the years, and I truly hope Xero will prioritise its implementation.

Seems as though Xero isn't interested in making their product more user friendly, considering this idea had over 400 upvotes...strange reaction to leave it up to 3rd party browsers to do a bad job of what should be a a basic setting.
and to close the comments off because you're sick of seeing surface time and time again? Easy to stop that, make Dark Mode happen. -

Disappointingly, this has already been rejected by Xero despite having over 400 votes:

Title: Custom Colour or Dark Mode Option for Xero Interface
It would be hugely beneficial to offer either a darker theme or allow custom interface colours—especially for users managing multiple businesses—so you can quickly differentiate accounts and reduce eye strain.
This improves accessibility (fewer headaches/migraines for many users) and reduces visual fatigue during extended use. -

Will Dark Mode be a feature you're adding?
We've been waiting and been rebuffed for years now

Xero is now the only software I use that does not support dark mode.
This needs to be a high priority. -

This is more important with the 'new' invoicing! I get a migraine from trying to work with the vast expanse of wasted white space. It is truly awful.

This would be great to have added officially, I find this to be a necessary feature in 2025.
For readers of this thread with a requirement for dark mode, please give Dark Reader a go (Chrome or Firefox extension) as it does a great job with Xero. -

Hi, would be good form a disability perspective and give more users the option to use in dark mode and make more user friendly.

it's 11pm at night and i can barely focus on my screen because it's so bright.
Google's High Contrast app is no longer available because it doesn't follow best practices for Chrome extensions.
Now that google's app is gone, do you realise the possible complications that could arise with using a random third-party app to force a dark mode?

I'd absolutely love to see this implemented, I suffer really badly from migraines and this would be such a used feature on your platform. I believe this may be an issue with addons and marketplace addons perhaps, or maybe a lot of reverse engineering involved, but if an addon mentioned such as "Google's High Contrast" can do it, perhaps you could release a switch at the top with a beta label on it for those who wish to deactivate it if it doesn't work on certain areas of the XERO dashboard? just a suggestion. Would love to see this, most apps these days have it, XERO seems to be lacking in this very highly sought after feature on many apps.

Ignoring the overwhelming support for this feature there are health and safety considerations at play here. There are workarounds to this lack of functionality, but it seems cumbersome given what we pay in subscriptions for this otherwise excellent product.

I have been trying to figure out why ive been getting headaches each day and after reading through here it seems its the long hours i spend on Xero.. Such a shame that it hasn't been considered in the last 5 years.

You should reconsider this for the wellbeing of your users.

5 years no dark mode. 1st part support > 3rd party tools. this is an accessibility need for some people. but then again windows narrator doesn't seem to work on the site either, so maybe prioritise that first?

I, too, would love a dark mode, or at least an option for the site to follow browser default settings or device settings on that issue.

It's amazing how many people have asked for this over the years and they still haven't created a dark mode.
