Organisation settings - Dark mode
Ability to change darker backgrounds in Xero.
Purpose: White text against a Dark Background, is easier to see for the eyes.
Hi all, appreciate the interest in this idea and its importance to help reduce eye strain and headaches for improved user comfort, especially during extended usage.
We understand that this has been a longstanding request, and we genuinely appreciate your patience and dedication to making Xero an even better platform for all.
While this may be a function we look to explore in the long-term, we want to be upfront that this is not something we'll be developing in the near term due to the complexities involved and the need to prioritise other impactful updates. We know that this may be disappointing but hope that this provides some clarity.
In the meantime, as some users have mentioned you may be able to use a third-party app like Google's High Contrast, which allows you to change the colour on your screen to make it easier to read.

Just to add on to another users request (see organisation settings - Dark mode) highly voted request
Could you please consider the darker mode theme on Xero for those who have light sensitivity or migraines due to white screens etc

I am finding it a little hard to take Xero seriously when they won't even add a simple dark mode option to their application(s). Surely "earth day" would appreciate it too? Lol, it's "Not planned", the only Admin response since 2019 on this subject. I'm switching to Zoho Books EOFY $65AUD down to $15AUD per month, plus dark mode out of the box, that's a win for us.

When is this rolling out ?

+1 to add a dark mode please. It's almost the standard for good interfaces at this point. It's annoying when I'm up early working and Xero is the only application I have up that doesn't have a dark mode. Who doesn't enjoy being blinded by white light when they wake up.

+1 this functionality should be a priority to any software that is required to be used for long periods of time.
For those noting they're a dev and it isn't "that hard of a change" my response to you is that difficulty is very dependent based on the quality of their underlying code. In a world where best practices were applied throughout development I would agree that this change would be "easy". However, as Hannah noted "due to the complexities" I would assume that their code wasn't developed with UI in mind.

I have an eye condition and anything on a white background is extremely difficult to work with after about 10 mins. Wanting to use a dark screen for me and millions of other people is not just a nice to have it's a must have.
I have a MacBook, like all Apple products it allows users to change everything to dark mode, this includes websites, documents (including MS,) apps etcetc. However not all websites change unfortunately Xero being one of them. The same is true with third-party apps like Google, Darker etc they don't convert the same stubborn websites either.
So come on Xero do your bit for accessibility and visually impaired users and add some coding that allows users to use a dark screen.

Just another request for Dark Mode. Im scratching my head wondering why all of us consumers have just gotten used to paying money for products that are only partially developed. Maybe if we cancel our subscriptions, Xero will realize that they need to develop their software if they want to keep making money.

As a Dev my self I would like to be upfront and say that this is really not that complex and looking at all the comments its more than we just want dark mode.

it would be great to have a such functionality as the long usage of a white screen hurts the eyes

Trying to do work late at night. This bright white screen is killing my eyes..

Xero would benefit from dark mode for users. Add to that Yubikey auth. Zoho Books has both, is cheaper and I'm strongly tempted to switch EOFY as I'm already using their ticket system.

I am a neuro-rehabilitation professional and I have several clients that would simply not be able to tolerate the brightness. THIS IS AN ACCESSIBILITY ISSUE, for those who are sensitive to bright light stimulation, it should be a priority.

Here's a hint (this page in Dark Reader). And thanks to Dark Reader though allowing page read access tweaks my paranoia.

Good day everyone, I personally use "Dark Reader" to reflect Xero in "dark mode".
One can download it from the browser store. See enclosed screenshot of what it looks like.

Agreeing with everyone on this thread - I think, Xero, you are undervaluing the benefits of Dark mode for your users - you have a great product but our eyes are hurting. A good UX designer could sort this out for you pretty easily.

And another request to add to the long list here!
As founder of a software product company, I completely understand some of the effort and challenges involved in refactoring existing UI/UX. That said, please don't underestimate the value dark mode will provide to what I suspect will be, a very large proportion of your customers.
We couldn't get away with not providing light and dark modes (themes) and as it happens, customer branded themes.in our TeamFolio SaaS software.
Hopefully you'll reconsider raising the priority status of this enhancement request.

Just another request for Dark mode here. Judging by the amount of comments below it's quite important to a lot of people. I thought it was supposed to be beautiful software?

Until Xero listens to its users and implements this as a feature try using Dark Reader as a workaround. It seems to a do a really good job with Xero, and the rest of the web. Support for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge (it's just Chrome rebadged).
