Organisation settings - Dark mode
Ability to change darker backgrounds in Xero.
Purpose: White text against a Dark Background, is easier to see for the eyes.

Hi all, appreciate the interest in this idea and its importance to help reduce eye strain and headaches for improved user comfort, especially during extended usage.
We understand that this has been a longstanding request, and we genuinely appreciate your patience and dedication to making Xero an even better platform for all.
While this may be a function we look to explore in the long-term, we want to be upfront that this is not something we'll be developing in the near term due to the complexities involved and the need to prioritise other impactful updates. We know that this may be disappointing but hope that this provides some clarity.
In the meantime, as some users have mentioned you may be able to use a third-party app like Google's High Contrast, which allows you to change the colour on your screen to make it easier to read.

Here's a hint (this page in Dark Reader). And thanks to Dark Reader though allowing page read access tweaks my paranoia.

Good day everyone, I personally use "Dark Reader" to reflect Xero in "dark mode".
One can download it from the browser store. See enclosed screenshot of what it looks like.

Agreeing with everyone on this thread - I think, Xero, you are undervaluing the benefits of Dark mode for your users - you have a great product but our eyes are hurting. A good UX designer could sort this out for you pretty easily.

And another request to add to the long list here!
As founder of a software product company, I completely understand some of the effort and challenges involved in refactoring existing UI/UX. That said, please don't underestimate the value dark mode will provide to what I suspect will be, a very large proportion of your customers.
We couldn't get away with not providing light and dark modes (themes) and as it happens, customer branded themes.in our TeamFolio SaaS software.
Hopefully you'll reconsider raising the priority status of this enhancement request.

Just another request for Dark mode here. Judging by the amount of comments below it's quite important to a lot of people. I thought it was supposed to be beautiful software?

Hopefully, you changed your mind by now Hannah.

Until Xero listens to its users and implements this as a feature try using Dark Reader as a workaround. It seems to a do a really good job with Xero, and the rest of the web. Support for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge (it's just Chrome rebadged).

I have to agree with nearly every comment below about how disappointing Xero's view is on Dark Mode. As Tim Stone mentioned, I would've thought this could be done through CSS to a large degree and then perhaps followed up with the slightly more arduous task of checking through the program to ensure optimal legibility in all instances?? Surely Xero isn't suggesting that if its corporate colour changed from blue to purple, that it'd just have to stick with the blue accents/feature colour throughout the program? It's kinda unbelievable. I think a certain other accounting software originating from NZ lost its market dominance to Xero due to been somewhat complacent to the ever evolving accounting/customer needs and expectations. It would be a shame to see this happen again!

Honestly disappointing. I don't recall a different system I am using that does not allow for dark mode. Not sure what kind of functions your team is working on for the last few years that are more important. There will be always something in the pipeline before dark mode?

@B F it's standard because it's required to meet Accessibility standards. If you don't meet Accessibility standards, then you're discriminating against disabled people, which kinda sucks

I'd also like to add my support to this idea being implemented sooner rather than later - I often get headaches as a result of looking at a too bright screen, so having as many dark mode options available as possible makes working much more comfortable.
I'm hoping that if enough people continue to show their support for this idea, Xero will prioritise this as a feature sooner than they've originally stated - for me this feature is probably right at the top of what I'd want to see most out of Xero, alongside charity accounts reporting.

I'll echo the latest comments below.
I'm EXCEPTIONALLY disappointed, despite the Xero team seeing the importance of this feature, they have chosen not to implement it.
It would make my team's experience much nicer.
It is so jarring going from all the darkened UIs into Xero. -

Who assessed this a "not planned". While the whole rest of the web moves towards standardising accessibility, Xero cannot even offer a Dark mode alternative!
What is maybe in the long-term? We've already waited for 10+ years to have this implemented. It's just CSS and a true/false preference flag.
This is just another example of how Xero has COMPLETELY lost touch with what users want or expect.

Wow. Can't believe something that is standard in almost every app isn't important enough for Xero to even plan for it.
How about hire some real developers to implement what the users actually want and stop changing everything to be full of white space. Maybe then your price increases will be justified. -

headaches and eye strain are a real concern. For the most part I'm able to use dark mode for pretty much everything, except Xero. I see this has been in 'ideas' for a few years now, please Xero, give some feedback on likely timescale

I've just added Dark Reader to Chrome; this has turned dark mode on everything, including Xero. It could be better, but it has helped.

With 3 screens each and looking a bit like Nasa in our office these days, headaches and eye strain are a real concern. really need this, it's very ******* the eyes especially as the borders on the various fields are also very light.
Doing the bank recs now and it's sooo frustrating!! Our IT dept doesn't allow downloading of browser extensions so Dark Reader isn't an option. Please Xero team, sort this out??
