Tracking - Increase the number of tracking categories
I have a real estate client who wants to track clientID and Postcode but also Agent name and property value range. I can only use 2 categories and so have had to make a number of Item codes for each agent 30+ codes per agent in order to do this. If we could have more than 2 tracking categories that would be great!

Hi everyone, we appreciate all the interest in Tracking. As widely used as this feature is we have no plans at this point to develop and extend the current limitations of Tracking in Xero.
As some here may have explored - there are connected apps that may serve some of the needs of Tracking, as well as Xero Projects for those looking to monitor and record finite business projects or jobs.
If there's any change, we'll return here to update.
You're welcome to continue to share detail of how increasing options for tracking could benefit your business, however we want to be transparent in our position, so you can make the best decision as needed for your business.

I would like to request that this be opened again for voting. Additional tracking categories is quite important to my clients.

Please increase the number of tracking categories. That's make no sense when you limit 2 categories. Lots of information need to be captured with all companies.

Lots of support on the previous post of this idea, and I would definitely appreciate it. Seems unnecessary to limit us to 2 (active) tracking categories, and it seems like a trivial change to implement.

After reading this I really don't understand why this isn't at least being looked at. We need to put docket numbers on our invoices and can't because there is no ability to use any more than 2 tracking categories. Interestingly it tells us 4 unfortunately 2 of these are the options that sit under the 2 tracking categories. Otherwise it would be helpful to have an invoice template that can be adjusted to have the required number of columns. At present the names of the columns cannot be changed or Xero won't recognise them.
We can't vote but we can comment. The more comments the more likely it is to be looked into.

There should be no limit on Tracking Categories. Currently Xero supports only up to 400 categories. If we go above 400, we will not get a true total P&L report. A number of tracking categories should not be limited, as it is essential for charities, for example. Charities have hundreds of projects/grants in different regions which must be tracked while doing bank reconciliations, posting expenses, etc.

This is absolutely vital! I don't understand why you are allowed to have 4 but only use 2?
Defeats the purpose. I understand Xero is a basic enough package, however, there needs to be an increase to the 2 tracking categories.
The current system does not lend any hand to a company that is growing rapidly. Your competitors have several/unlimited tracking categories. Like others, we may have to reconsider our options in this regard.
Please look into this.

This would make a big difference for the layers we track in our company!

Hi, is it possible for others to vote?

Hi, hope this problem can be solved soon. We also need more than 2 categories, and more than 100 tracking options per category.

At this point it's absolutely shocking that there is a limit of 2. Sage provide unlimited tracking categories, and a subscription is half the price. Rapidly reaching the point where Xero simply isn't useful for us anymore, and we may have to take the plunge of re-training everyone to use Sage instead.

It seems, there is no plan for this from XERO Team. How others are managing currently more than 2 categories? It may help others in this group. Any creative idea or we end up using manual tracking on excels or external tools?

I think, it's critical business requirement and we should look into it. I am looking forward to have this asap

Why won't you deal with this issue. So many people need it. Please can you extend to more than 100 per category & more than 2 categories.

We have used the two tracking categories for years. "Department" is now being reconfigured as "Cost Center", "Project" helps me do my job, but now the parent company wants us tracking "Product Line". We could really use more tracking categories!

Please allow for more tracking - 2 is not enough. Please look other accounting packages which offer it. Clients want more. Really appreciate it if ye would add it to the table of action plans for 2023. It's Xero after all - it should be the best product out there.

I support this idea as well!
I definitely think there is a growing need for there to be more than 2 tracking categories.

I have a client who needs 5 tracking categories with at least 500 tracking options under each category. Quickbooks has this many tracking category option and it will be great if XERO can bring this too.

Whilst I undertsand the Xero Tracking is a hard limit, the lack of response from Xero in regard to this is concerning. We all have concerns, and most are happy to pay for the extra price to increase.
If would be helpful instead of having 2 active and 2 archive, that we could choose how many active tracking categories we could have, which could essentially give us up to 400 tracking options. It is ridiculous to think that we would have to archive and unarchive for entering.
Xero please look into this - there are too many calls requesting this feature and the limitations in reporting programs that can only import (for example 60 tracking categories) makes it even more difficult.
It is at entry level. And if you need payroll setup with a category on its own, then it literally wipes out a tracking category ability to fully utilise the 200 options.
