UK Payroll - Ability to process prior year employment allowance claims through Xero payroll
At the moment this isn't an available feature, and HMRCs basic PAYE tools need to be used. It would be good to see this as an option in Xero.

This is a very useful feature for accountants, who often deal with the clients missing their prior EA submissions. Would love to see the feature in Xero.

The trap has been when a new HMRC payroll year starts, Xero resets the Employers Allowance to NO automatically. This makes sense as HMRC needs a definitive claim to be decided for each year.
My clients who run their own payrolls can miss this and if not astute go the whole year without claiming (and overpaying).
One solution may be to put in a warning to the user on the first pay run in the new HMRC payroll year to state definitively if the Employment Allowance is to claimed or not (and if unsure ask the accountant). Currently it is in the end of year roll over for payroll but not an obligatory decision. -

It looks like it is possible to reset the claim indicator (either YES or NO) for earlier years through Xero as in June Xero took the YES and turned it to NO for the previous year at HMRC. I have done the accounting entries via manual journal as we cannot redo the P32 etc for the earlier year in Xero.

HMRC tell me that Xero should be able to claim Employment Allowances for previous years on our behalf. When I contact Xero they say not available, go to Basis PAYE Tool, so I am going around in circles and not actually getting anywhere or any help.

As it is so easy for clients to miss the tick box to enable employers allowance, It's a long process to do through PAYE tools. It would be very helpful to be able to submit previous years EA claims directly from Xero.

I thought that this had been a feature in Xero previously and was surprised when it seemed to have disappeared. Since Payroll Bureaus frequently have clients who forget to tick the box this would be an important option to have.

Having just gone through the Basic PAYE Tool (which required downloading the programme, and going through copious documents, I think Xero could do this much better.

This would mean that customers using your service would have a much more simple procedure for claiming this past benefit and would be a lot more likely to do so. Therefore, making this possible on your software would be saving your customers money which is important!

often we find new clients did not claim this allowance so it would be a great way to promote the wonders of Xero and add value to their business at the outset.
currently we have to do it using the very cumbersome HMRC PAYE Tools method - it takes ages!
So please add this feature to make our lives and our clients lives better.
