User Roles: Invoice only - Inventory access for invoice only setting
There should be the ability to select inventory access for users that have invoice only access.
For example, my office manager handles all the invoicing as well as all of the stock and inventory management. Currently he cannot access inventory to add new items or change pricing without the ability of seeing all of the bank accounts. Second tier management should be able to access invoicing and stock control without seeing critical financials. I suggest that a tab be added to the settings for users to allow inventory to be accessed at the invoice only level user.
Alternatively, make bank record access, bank reconciliation and bank accounts a selectable feature in all levels of settings so they can be excluded whilst giving permission to specific other features for users. I would love to see this happen because I have an office manager who runs my business for me but as a managing director, I have to enter all the stock items myself to ensure that he does not have access to the bank account information.
This is not an incredibly valuable use of my time.
Xero, please look into this.

Can we get an update on this please?? It's been ages with no progress on what should be a basic functionality.

I fully support the above. I am in a similar position. Without the ability to restrict access to bank accounts I am unable to pass inventory management on to another staff member. I have a team member responsible for dispatch and warehousing and would like him to manage inventory as part of his role. By having to manage this myself it impacts workflow for both myself and employees, as I am not always available to action immediately and draws my time from more important tasks.

I have found the "cart blanche" user settings quite bizarre. essentially have to give sales assistant access to company financials. what the???

Agree 100%, xero needs to finetune their user permissions breaking them down to various areas of the software (Sales, Inventory, Purchases etc etc).
Funny their own product Workflow Max does this much better. You can easily tick options from a big list of permission that can be granted to staff.
Even MYOB provides this feature. This is a very basic expectation from Xero. Hopefully their development team is working on this.

Agree on absolutely all counts. My stock manager has to ask accounts staff for a stock list of items every month end so he can do a stock take.
He should be able to do that himself. At the moment he can only view po's that he has created.
He should be able to see all stock po's and the bills pertaining to each order, as well as being able to view and amend stock items, all without being able to view any other areas of Xero. And I totally agree with John on 13 September, I voted for this before with the other 40 voters. Why is it being ignored??

I Agree - My clients Sales Manager needs to be able to add new inventory items as they are made available, but does not need to see the bank accounts/transactions where they can what amounts othe people in the business are receiving,
There should be roles that cover - operations as in sales, purchases, inventory, client records / then Financial Reporting - all reports except Banking / and also Financial FULL to have a view of everything. Within each to be able to select which reports/areas they can see.
XERO - when will there be an update as this could be mean an accounts system provider changer for my clients to a system that allows selective access to each business area.
I cannot fathom out why you would want a standard user to have access to the Business Finances. -

I agree, I have invoice only access but also have admin access to Xero Projects.
I do not have access to inventory so have to type in new tasks for each project I open which is very time consuming and unnecessary.

Thanks Jonathan, I agree 100% with your suggestions, Xero is great but it needs greater flexibility and options to refine user permissions so staff can access products and services and contacts without seeing all the dashboard and bank account activity which does not concern them.

This is definitely something Xero needs to address...It is of importance to some companies that Sales Managers need access to be able to update and amend stock items without having to have access to Financials. I dont understand why this has never been addressed and offered.

I can't fathom why users need to see all financials just to access (view, never mind edit) Products and Services. There's another idea from 2015 called "User Role - Access to Products & Services (Inventory) and Purchases/Sales only" with 41 votes.
Please note it is incredibly rude not to even acknowledge ideas with dozens of votes.

Our sales team need to know what is in our stock room but don't need access to the bank accounts.
As an example, we have a customer who wants a 22" monitor. Sales know we keep stock of monitors but don't know what is currently in stock (Make, Model, Size, ports, sale price and purchase price). There is no way for them to search tracked items in Xero to quote a product that is in stock.
Instead they have to ask someone to physically search the stock room or bother someone who has "Standard" or "Advisor" level access to Xero to search "Products & Services". This puts unnecessary work onto our bookkeeper to update the sales team with what is in stock. The same applies for our purchasing manager, He orders products form suppliers, books them into the stockroom using the "Tracked Inventory Item" feature. For some reason, we also need to give him full access to see all bank accounts.

Fully agree that this needs to be a critical feature.

Totally agree - stock control to the purchasing manager - its is so pointless not having this function

We have people raising purchase orders who can't access products and services so have to contact someone else with access to change prices and run any reports. Absolute madness and a total waste of time

I agree - I can't understand the logic behind the blanket user permissions. Bank accounts etc should be it's own separate tick box!
Inventory & inventory reports should be separated out - why should you need full access to deal with inventory?!
