Hi everyone, thanks for the interest in this idea.
As you can appreciate, user roles span across the entire Xero product so there’s many combinations of permissions our customers want to see us build. Specifically, our reporting product team is very much aware of the challenges with the current permission sets relating to sharing individual reports with different users and are beginning to look into how we might be able to alleviate some of these reporting challenges.
However, at this stage it’s far too early to anticipate or confirm any direction on where this discovery work will lead, but it will inform our next steps. Additionally, as I'm sure you can appreciate there are sensitivities of data access and security. Creating upgrades to user permissions will need very careful consideration. As most will be across, the reporting team are leading up to retiring older versions of Xero’s reports on 31…

I've been using Xero for years, but not being able to have a "bookkeeper" role, or run A/R, A/P or sales reports per department is a real roadblock. This has been a wish list item for 7 years, and not one reply from them on this. Pretty disappointing. We've been a client since 2012/13, and now we're looking for alternatives just because of this issue.

Thanks for all your input and sharing how we can improve Xero's user roles to cater for the needs of your business and staff you'd like to provide this access for.
As you may have seen in other ideas we've been conducting some research into user roles across all of Xero. As a step on from this, one of our teams are beginning a deeper dive into solving this idea here and enabling more roles access to Products & services (Inventory) in Xero.
While this may take sometime to accomplish we wanted to provide an update to you all interested in this, and we'll keep you informed of further progress as the team begin looking into it.

We thank you all for sharing in the idea here, and understand there are many permissions that our Xero customers would like to provide on a more incremental basis. As you'll all know access to bank accounts is available to users with Adviser, Standard or limited access to those with Read Only roles - You can see more of the breakdown in our article here
With much of the teams resource drawn to work on the platform that'll continue to help us with the 'building on beautiful' experience for our customers we want to be upfront that there are no direct plans for altering the user permissions in this space just yet.
User roles and individual permissions within a bank account will be in the limelight once much of the platform upgrades are complete, but this is some way off atm. We'll return to share when there's any…
An error occurred while saving the comment Lisa von Sturmer commentedThis is fundamental! Why is xero all or nothing when it comes to accessing financials?? Huge limitation and needs to be addressed. Seems a small fix that would have a very beneficial impact on users.

An error occurred while saving the comment Lisa von Sturmer commentedThere needs to be more permissions available for access to reports. Some users need access to basic reports, but not all financials. There should be ability to run client invoice reports / AR & AP reports for some users, without giving them full access to banking, P&L / Balance Sheet. Seems like basic functionality to be able to select which reports they should be able to run etc.
How ridiculous. Most small businesses are not "1 man bands" or solopreneurs etc. What will you all be switching to? I've been using Xero since 2010 (!!!!) and will be switching this year if possible (even though I'd prefer not to!) because we need different access levels to reporting. Kind of shocked this isn't even in the pipeline as it's so basic, but oh well. I'm not thrilled about Quickbooks, but maybe it's evolved a lot over the past 13 yrs...
Also pretty disappointed that Xero wouldn't even comment on such a highly voted issue that's almost 10 yrs old.
