Bank Rule for overpayments
We have a lot of clients that make payments on account that don't match invoices.
For example they may have a food supplier who they pay £500 a week but this doesn't match any invoices.
It would be beneficial if we could set up a Bank Rule so that these payments are automatically treated as overpayments to the designated supplier ledger.
Currently we have to go "add details", select "overpayment", put in supplier name, then "save transaction" for every single one. A Bank Rule would do them all in the press of a button and save a lot of time.
Hi all, while it's really great to see how many of our users are making use of automating reconciliation by setting up Bank Rules, priorities lye in other areas of Bank Reconciliation for the team at present.
We know where our customers would like to see our attention when we have resource to broaden horizons in the space of Bank Rules and Overpayments will be high on this list when the time comes.
To confirm there is no work planned atm, but we'll share if and when this changes.

Wow - for Xero to dismiss this and block further voting.
The inability to use a bank rule for overpayments, and then having to manually allocate (or use the Allocat.io add on) creates a massive amount of work for our business. -

Hi all,
I'm the original poster of this suggestion.
Xero have told me they've disabled the vote function as they have no plans to implement this at any point in the near to mid future and don't want it to be voted for.
I guess all this spiel of "make suggestions and we'll look at implementing the most voted for" isn't accurate in the slightest.
They can control what is and what isn't voted for regardless of what their customers actually want. -

Hi
Our business module is based in customer's prefunding there account and then purchased fuel at various fuel stations. We need to allocate this deposit directly to there customer account. We have about 100 deposit a day and it is critical that we manage this with a bank rule. -

There are lots of circumstances where somebody pays a fixed amount every month which is not allocated to an invoice until the invoice is raised once a year...
Having to manually create overpayments is incredibly time-consuming and either using a rule or being able to do this via cash coding would be incredibly helpful please. -

I have this issue with our dental clients, their patients pay when seen however the matching bills from the NHS are only issued once a month. We depserately need this feature.

Ridiculous that this isn't planned. Lots of clients receive or make overpayments against one invoice. I don't understand the reluctance to add this as a feature as many of your competitors have it already. It's absence is holding you back.
Just get it done! -

A huge amount of my time is spent on the following: 1. Individually entering payments on account as overpayments 2. individually allocating credits/overpayments to open bills. It is insane that this could be made so much simpler by 1. allowing overpayments to be created by bank rule 2. enabling batch allocation of credits against bills. 50% clientwork is on Xero, 50% on QuickBooks so I have a lot of opportunity to compare the two. In QuickBooks this is not an issue, payments on account can be set up as bank rules and batch allocation of credits against bills is quick and easy. When I am suggesting a system to clients this is one of the main things I consider in terms of volume/type of transactions and one of the main reasons I would recommend QuickBooks over Xero.

We are in agreement with Steven Ellison and the numerous individuals that have requested this feature.
It is ridiculous that Xero has marked this as "not planned", putting aside the fact that its a feature that most competitors already offer. Without exaggerating, the lack of features dealing with overpayments efficiently is the reason I've kept a lot of our clients on other software and have been hesitant to bring more clients over to Xero

Bank Rule for overpayments
My idea on a bank rule for overpayments was closed but multiple people are still commenting on it still to say that this should be a feature and it's quite ridiculous that it isn't.
You have recently had the time and resources to mess around with colour schemes to give it a new look etc. so surely you have had the time to introduce a fundamental feature such as this?
Please reopen the original idea or, better still, listen to your customers and get it implemented.

It is disappointing that this request has been closed, not allowing more users to vote. As a relative newcomer to Xero, having used lots of other offerings, I cant believe a software, that has been on the market for so long, still doesn't have a bank rule option for payments on account - something so fundamental! I have lots of clients who send and receive payments on account - I am really struggling to make the jobs profitable when I have to manually post POAs.

Hi Xero,
Do you have any further update on this as this feature would also be very beneficial to the company i work for and this bank rule for automation would save us so much time manually having to do this

we receive regular 4-weekly payments each payment needs to be split to be allocated to the same batch of customer accounts. It would be helpful and save time to use bank rules to automatically record as overpayments

A bank rule to set as an overpayment would be really helpful ....
