I'm working with a new client who has over 250 tracking sub-categories. This is tedious, time-consuming, and completely unnecessary. I didn't want to put this client in QBO, but it's limitations like this that make me wonder if I made the right choice. :(

Totally needs to happen! The lack of this option drastically reduces the benfit of having integration with other software

Yes, to export/edit/import tracking categories especially if there are bulk items to create, as it is very time consuming to manually capture each tracing category. Unfortunately Projects is too cumbersome for little jobs and this is the only other option. Echoing other comments - will look at other software with better tracking /job costing options soon.

As a landlord with a number of properties this is a critical function. Echoing the comment below it’s a pretty make or break issue.

I have recently moved over to Xero. On an initial look and investigation, Xero seemed great but it is smaller detailed functionality such as this one that make using it a pain and I am considering moving to an alternative before I get into it too deep...

Yes, to export/edit/import tracking categories and projects will be great addition, especially if there are bulk items to create, as it is very time consuming to manually capture each tracing category and/or project.

This would be amazing, currently converting clients to Xero that were already using tracking in MYOB with 100+ categories in each of the 3 entities. It is going to be time consuming setting these up and the tedious to manage ongoing with having to archive manually also.

yes please! for importing tracking categories this would make the function more useable for us as over 400 assets on hire we could track

Suggested years ago and still not implemented!
Importing & Exporting are basic features and should be standard. It would really help migration from other systems which would surely encourage more people to use Xero. I also want to import Expenses from an old system but can't do that either :((
I hope Sales, Marketing and the CFO read these suggestions!

We want to track various investments and asset performance. We have >500, so manual entry is an absolute pain.

Why can we not export and import tracking categories?
is this something Xero is considering on providing?
If so, by when? -
Kenton Lane commented
Yes unbelievable that xero does not have this function. Can't wait to leave this program behind... Just to many shortcomings...everywhere.

We track income by sector set up as a tracking category in Xero - I just exported our clients, updated the tracking category for all and then imported back into Xero only to see that the tracking categories weren't updated, making the whole thing a huge waste of time. Please do better, Xero, this is not an unreasonable function to provide

Hi
As we use many tracking categories, it would be great if this could be available on bank import template and would very much appreciate if it were to become available soon.

This would be very helpful - we have hundreds of tracking categories that now have to be entered manually :(

Margot Edwards commented
Where this is an additional field that has started to be used, we now have to go into each transaction line to add the category, which is very slow and cumbersome. If it could simply be imported, that would be so much better.

I'm converting from Quickbooks, where I use class tracking extensively. Would be very helpful to be able to import my QB classes as Xero categories.
