Meanwhile Xero includes the line numbering feature, you may also want to consider creating line numbering through custom docx template. For more details in custom docx template, visit https://central.xero.com/s/article/Add-move-or-remove-fields-in-custom-invoices-quotes

For any document (e.g invoice, quote, statement etc), download the docx template from your branding theme. Once you’ve opened the docx, scroll to the table of content.

Here, you may add a new column for the line number. On the first cell of the column, you just have to click the numbering button under the Home tab. Click on the type of numbering as shown in the picture below.

Then upload the custom docx into your branding theme, generate an invoice with many lines. Print the pdf and see the magic. Each lines will be auto numbered by the numbering sequence you set in MS Word.

Should be an option for Quotes, Invoices, POs, Bills, etc. - anywhere we have to reference specific rows of data.

Having to double handle invoicing from our Database to Xero is time consuming and frustrating. Most of our customers require line numbering to match their orders. It needs to be visible to the client as well. Can this please be made a priority!!

Not having the ability to have line numbers is a productivity killer as it can take some time to scroll up and down trying to count the amount of rows on a quote or invoice, and the error margin is great many there are many rows.

As someone who often deals with invoices with over 50 lines, it would be tremendously helpful to have a line count in the Xero invoice so that we can easily reference the line to the source data. Even for reconciling data it would be very helpful to be able track the number of line items and insure it is consistent with source data. I can't imagine that would be a difficult feature add.

Add line numbers to invoices

Starting with zero this month, I’m so incredibly surprised that there is no total number of items line at the bottom of the invoice or packing list.This is a massive problem for us.

Could this not be done wih auto numbering in the table on a docx invoice template?

In my point of view, this is critical for companies for example, selling over 10,000 different items which results in one invoice with multi pages. i.e. when you have over 50-100 line items in one invoice, if we don't have a row number that's automatically counted and added (ideally on the left first column), we have to count the actual lines unnecessarily time consuming. This field is required for both internal to view to check the number of line items sold, and for clients to clarify line items when needed, with just row number but without finding an item line in the middle of over 100 item lines.
I was surprised we don't have this field in xero.
