New invoicing doesn't contain previous useful features
New invoicing version makes me tick 'Include files as attachments' for every invoice I send off, whereas the old invoicing remembered my defaults. I prefer the old way where my preferences were saved.
New invoicing also cannot preview attachments, it always has to open a new tab to view an attachment. Old invoicing I could preview an attachment on a pop up within the same browser tab. I prefer just viewing the attachment quick within the same screen, I personally don't like having another tab that needs closing.
Invoicing notes are inaccurate. For example; the system keeps marking invoiced as unsent, when I know I have just sent them.
When I mark a payment towards an invoice, whether the payment is in full or a deposit. Xero kicks me out of the invoice and takes me back to all the bills. So I then have to go back into that invoice in order to email it off. I prefer to mark the the invoice as paid if its been paid, before emailing out the invoice so to not confuse the customer. So its very annoying having to click back into the invoice every time.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feedback on how you'd like to see new invoicing developed. All your feedback here is being shared with the team as they continue to iterate and develop this new experience.
That said, in order for us to get a better understanding of interest for the different points raised here it's best for us to track and update any progress on these each separately. We appear to have ideas for each of the points mentioned in the thread here and I've linked these below so you can join and follow any updates for each.
- New Invoicing - Remember default settings
- New Invoicing - Open attached files in the current window
- New invoicing | History & Notes - Show email sent to
- New Invoicing - After adding payment, return to the same invoice, not the Sales Overview

No one likes change but I have yet to find anything positive about new invoicing.
Before, the data fields used to fit on one page of my webpage screen, now they are so wide that they scroll off the end of the page right side.
Before, attachments were always sent with invoices, as default. Now it seems that I have do more work and locate and tick yet more boxes to achieve the same result.
Before, one of the choices was to print invoice either sent or in draft, and it would download to my downloads folder, where I could deal with it IN MY OWN TIME thank you very much. Now, it jumps to open a new page where I am not working and I have to click more times to save that page down to where it needs to go.
Three wonderful 'improvements' for something that was not broke. Are you just trying to prove that you are 'doing something'? You have promised to look at screen headers repeating across account transactions on successive pages over years, but nothing comes.
Once you scroll down the page and the header row is out of sight, you have to remember what column is in and which is out. More work for the human because the computer is lazy. Thats not what Bill Gates/Steve Jobs promised.
Please send this to development headquarters and please do not send me to five other help pages so that I can do more work to learn how to use your programme.
