AU Payroll | Payroll Activity Detailed report - Separate date and Employee name columns
I hope that there's separate columns for date and employee name as seen in the previous report as it's totally useful when summarising data for various period. For instance, when generating the old report, it's completely quicker to use the pivot table and other excel formulas to calculate the total hours work and the corresponding cost in a certain period and prepare a comparative report for various pay item/period and employee using the old payroll activity detailed report. It's a single payroll report where all the relevant information is included.
Hiya team, thank you for sharing your feedback and letting us know the detail and why this is valuable to you. Based on feedback we received on the Employee name and Date columns the team have just released an update to the Payroll Activity Detailed report to include Employee name and Date as separate columns in the report and these will now show by default.
This will help as noted when exporting and using the data for further analysis outside of Xero.

Please return it to its old format it is now hard to allocate the payroll expense to individual employees! No more employee name in the first column!!

The new report is awful. As noted by Shannon, its hard to read and differentiate between employees. The old report did the job it needed to do and did it well.
Wish Xero would stop fiddling with things that aren't broken and actually work on fixing things that are. -

I hope Xero returns back the old format. I already have a template for our payroll allocation but it became useless when they suddenly changed the report's format significantly. Also, it's hard to use pivot table on the new one. Please understand that simple changes like this can affect our tasks significantly so update report formats with caution.

What a joke. Why did Xero change something that was acually working ok. There are SO many things that need fixing, stop wasting peoples time.

This was a critical file for our payroll reconciliation and now it's impossible to do it with the missing employee name against each pay item!! I can't believe Xero has changed that without any notice, but for AP and AR transaction reports we were informed months in advance. Absolutely outrageous and incredibly disruptive for our reporting function!

I used the old report with the employee name per pay item line for pivot tables for analysis for management accounts for clients and reallocation etc, unfortunately the new reports don't allow you to do this so it would be great to get the names back or another equivalent report that allows further analysis.

Definitely needs to add employee name and dates as columns on this report as the old one used to do. This was a great checking tool in excel for us to check the data entry on the different leave and pay types as we used to filter the columns for each pay type and we could see the employee. This is also great when you want to put the data on a pivot table etc. Please see attached.

Also, as I've listed further down idea/issue, this report now caps the decimal place for hrs/units at 2 places, where the previously reported to 4. We no longer have a report that shows true data entry of a payroll, which is critical for reporting.

Dislike these new reports and the auto long name without any date - I need to edit each one so it is easier to identify when saving.
Also reports themselves are hard to read with all the lines and spacing - please bring back the old style reports that had all the correct information while being more condensed.
We don't want lots of white space!
Clients also not happy. -

Agree. The report is longer in length and is harder to read. In general I am not a fan of any of the payroll reports produced by Xero and unable save a custom payroll report.

I totally agree, I cannot believe XERO has changed a format of a critical payroll report with zero consultation with its users. The usually way is to phase out a report and give a chance for uses to give feedback. The external reporting we do in our organisation to the Dept of Health is now unattainable. I cannot begin to express how much this effects my ability to accurately report externally to GOVT. DISAPPOINTED is to say the least.

I am very disappointed in Xero for what Xero has said is alignment to reporting style and format, but they have missed the boat completely with the Payroll Activity Details report change. It is archaic to have the employee name not against each line item. It is extremely difficult now to extract the data and work with it in excel. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix this or at the very least enable us to add or build a custom report.

This Report in its old format was highly critical to reporting Hours and $$ to the Govt for us as an Aged Care Provider. I now have no way of reporting on individual classes by reporting period. This is devastating to the reporting ability. Why were we given ono warning or option of phrasing to the new format. Usually there is a lead time of releasing a new format of reporting. Absolutely disappointed with XERO as a payroll product.

I agree. I used to export this report and use the date column to summarise data for reporting, but there is no longer a date column. To try and extract that from the first column is time-consuming and annoying. Can you please add back in the date column to this report?

I Agree with Jade, functionality when exporting to excel is now very limited and making it a time consuming task to get collated data per employee which is why you would predominately export this report to xero.
-
Jade Hendriks commented
It also makes the report useless when exported to Excel as the employee name and date are no longer displayed as a line item so the report needs to be manipulated in order to complete reconciliation.

The updates to the Payroll Activity Details report make it harder to read and differentiate between employees.
