XPM - Improve Sorting order of Client names in XPM
In MYOB, we had individuals as well as partnerships and trusts (which names included surnames of the associated individuals) set up in surname order, which would allow the clients to be sorted, filtered and exported to various lists or worksheets in that order and make it easy to compare/pick up other fields that should be the same for the group/family members (like addresses, emails for tax notices etc). In Xero, however, the names are sorted by the Name* (for entities) or Display Name* (for individuals) - the fields which we only want to be used as display names on the tax summaries, tax letters or invoices.
Could you please develop a way of setting up the clients in the system so that they are populating on the clients' lists sorted by surname while having their display name to be shown on the tax summaries/tax statements and tax letters? While it is possible to export and format the excel/CSV lists by surnames - it's no good when it comes to checking the clients' data on the formatted lists (e.g. tax payments) against the names that populate on the tax payments menu because they show display names there.
Hey team thanks for raising this Idea around sorting order of client names. We are moving this to Gaining Support, but we want to let you know that in the Client list you can still search for clients using the last name, this will pull all the clients wiht that particular last name in the search results. You can now share this idea wiht friends and colleagues and encourage them to vote and comment. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention.

We have individual clients' display names set as "Joe Bloggs", not "Bloggs, Joe", so they look sensible on their tax returns etc.
But this means that when you see an on-screen list of Tax Payments Waiting Approval, or if you display or print a report, the individual clients show up in order of their FIRST names which is not logical and can make it difficult to find them on the list. This is also a problem with the reports.
The report field "Client" gives you the "display name" for individuals and the "name" for non-individuals, so all the individuals are in order of first name. We could edit reports to show last name and first name fields instead of "client" but then all the non-individual clients are left off.
Please can we have the ability to see clients in the correct order on screen & create reports showing our clients in alphabetical order of Last name, first name with non-individual clients also included in order of their name?
