Allow Hubdoc documents to be edited and republished after being published incorrectly
Hubdoc needs a simple way to correct a document that has been published incorrectly, without requiring the user to take another photo or upload the document again.
For example, I recently photographed a supplier return/refund receipt in Hubdoc. It was accidentally published to Xero as Spend Money, when it should have been published as a Credit Note / AP Credit.
Once a document has been published, Hubdoc appears to lock it to that original transaction. Even if the incorrect transaction is deleted in Xero, attempting to change the document type and republish it can result in duplicate-document or validation errors.
The current workaround of taking another photo of the original document is not practical. One of the main reasons for using Hubdoc is so that a business can photograph a paper receipt and then dispose of the physical copy. By the time the publishing error is discovered, the original receipt may no longer exist.
Suggested improvement:
Allow users to select an already-published Hubdoc document and choose something like "Correct and Republish" or "Unpublish from Xero." This should:
Retain the original scanned image in Hubdoc.
Allow the document type to be corrected, for example from Spend Money to Credit Note.
Allow the incorrect Xero transaction to be removed or disconnected.
Allow the same original document/image to then be republished correctly.
Avoid duplicate-document and validation errors caused by correcting a genuine publishing mistake.
Hubdoc is supposed to be the permanent digital record of the original document. Users should not need to physically possess and photograph the document again simply because the wrong publishing option was selected.
This would make correcting genuine bookkeeping mistakes significantly easier and would make Hubdoc much more practical as a paperless document-management system.
