Contacts - Show attachments for transactions in the contact overview
Under the Contact, where Xero shows the current account balance and further down the screen we can see all invoices etc for that contact. When I scroll down the list of invoices I'd love to be able to see a little icon that tells me how many files I have uploaded to each invoice. The only way to tell currently is if I click into each invoice and then I can see the number of files attached per the little file icon at the top.

Documents inbox - Simple email address for email to files
There should be a way we can change the email address that the files inbox accepts to make it more tailored to clients?
For example for a client, their inbox files email could be: xero.inbox.owerthsgm56785.49n6356@xerofiles.com which is crazy!
It would be so much better if it could be something like xero.inbox.clientname@xerofiles.com

Document - Allow document to be attached to multiple transactions
The inability to attach credit notes from a batch is becoming increasingly problematic. To clarify: multiple credit notes sent from suppliers under 1 PDF - there isn't the capability to transfer these into a separate folder and then attach each PDF multiple times when creating a credit note from a supplier. As soon as it is attached once it disappears! I have had multiple occasions where there are numerous credits in one PDF and am having to write all but one down in longhand so I can then create the Credits. Documents - Ability to restore deleted files
A 'Deleted' folder in Files that captures deleted files.
Once I have uploaded a receipt to the files folder, I always dispose of the original.
If you accidentally attach it too, and then delete it from the transaction, it is gone forever. You have no ability to reload it from the files folder.
The original uploaded file is gone, so you have to source another copy of the receipt from the supplier.
Surely this deleted uploaded file has gone somewhere?
Can we have it directed to a folder?

Documents - Drag & drop a file to attach to a transaction
Just like the "Drop or click to upload files" area below this text box, I'd like an area within each transaction that I can use to upload an invoice or receipt. Rather than clicking the add document button and searching through the file hierarchy.

Documents - Ability to rename and/or delete file while viewing in inbox
In the files inbox, when I want to rename or delete a file, I cannot do so while looking at the contents of the file. I must close the file and try to find it amongst the dozen or so files sent by a dozen different people, and then rename or delete it. I would like to be able to rename the file while I have it open.
Similarly, I would like to delete files from the inbox while looking at them - I get a LOT of forwarded email threads, and every logo in every footer shows up as…

Documents - Upload notifications for administrators
When a client uploads or emails a file to the Xero files area of their own subscription, it would be helpful if we, as their accountants, could receive a notification to let us know there is a file waiting for us.

As we continue to explore ways to improve efficiencies for our customers this is an idea our team are aware of and will consider in future improvements.
We have recently introduced Smart Document Capture, powered by AI that extracts data from files uploaded to your Inbox to help you create transactions in your organisation.
Coupled with this, we've also released the ability to upload multiple documents from your mobile. Meaning you can take photos of invoices you've received via email and easily upload these through your mobile, which Xero will then analyse and help you create transactions from.
We appreciate this isn't a direct solve for this idea but may bridge the gap for some here.

We appreciate the needs that have been shared in a feature of this kind however want to be upfront that this isn't something we have any near terms plans for developing within Xero. Documents - Ability to send documents to cloud storage from Xero Documents
Ability to push files that’s uploaded in Xero Files to cloud storage (e.g. Google Drive, Dropbox, and Sharepoint).
Purpose: Users can easily store/keep their files that they’ve uploaded in Xero into their own cloud storage. Especially when they have many documents that exceed the limit of Xero Files.

Document - Show email subject in documents
Show the email subject line in Xero files.
It's simple enough to forward emails with invoices to my xero mailbox, but I don't have control over the filename. It would be great if Xero can show the subject line. That way I could change the subject line when I forward the email. It would look like a note on the invoice in Xero Files.
7 votesHi everyone, thanks for sharing and supporting this idea. The file name shown in Xero Files is taken from the name on the attachments. As a workaround these could be renamed before the emails are forwarded to Xero or renamed from within Xero files.

Ability to export and print files from Xero in bulk.
Purpose: To have backup files and audit purposes.
694 votesThank community, we appreciate all your involvement on this idea. We understand the ability to bulk export or print attached files would be a huge time-saver, especially for year-end audits, client communication, and general record-keeping.
We’ve evaluated the complexity of this feature against other priorities on our roadmap. Atm, this isn't in our plans however we'd like to explore bulk downloading of files from Xero in the longer term. I'll share an update when we're able to give more attention to this, here.
For the meantime if this is essential for you right now, you may like to explore third-party integrations through our Xero app store which could meet your needs here.

Ability to rename the files in Xero Files once it’s attached.
Purpose: To make other users in Xero (the one that doesn’t upload the file) can easily identify the file without having to click it.

Documents - Control/edit the name of PDF documents sent from Xero
Ability to edit the PDF name when sending PDF attachment from Xero.
Purpose: Users’ can name their attachment with their business name.
94 votesHi community, while we're continuing to keep a close eye on the support for this idea here, we don't have any plans in the near term to control the naming of files sent form Xero.
Just to share, though appreciate many will already be aware, once the file is received and downloaded by the recipient the file name can be manually edited on their local device.
