We appreciate users wanting more flexibility in the data they show on invoices. At present our teams are re-developing some of the base features across Sales with particular focus on new invoicing.
At this time, there are no plans for developing a fields for a PO number in invoicing. Focus is on existing features in invoicing.
It's good to get a renewed understanding of interest here on Product Ideas, and if there's any news we will update on this here.In the meantime, there is a way the custom template can be edited to rename the Reference field as a 'Purchase Order Number' field - see more in the discussion here.

Hi community, we appreciate everyone's engagement here. To confirm we have intentions of developing the purchase order experience, however developing Projects into this does have some complexities and requires work across both purchase orders and projects to deliver.
Right now our initial focus is releasing the new purchase order experience to all users.
While we don't have a timeframe for assigning PO's to Projects at this stage, this is top of our product teams radar and we'll communicate here as soon as there's an update.

So we are almost a year past your update - is there any further update? This causes us issues on both sides - one being able to track our own PO's/spending on projects - but also in invoicing having a specific PO field to enter client purchase orders in - I would also suggest that on a project level you have an element (like you do on client set up) that lets you put in a PO number and it's value and then you could draw down against this with alerts when nearing the end etc. this really shouldn't be too difficult for you to implement

Christie Van der Beeke, whilst i appreciate what you are saying, the issue is that we need the reference box to tie it back to our projects. There is a important need for most of the Xero users

Thanks for the response and continued support in this idea, everyone.
Work for partial billing of a purchase orders is taking shape. ✨
To give a taster of what this'll look like - when you create a bill from a purchase order you'll be able to enter the amounts of each item you'd like to bill, and your Approved purchase order will show the amount of each item Billed.
I'll come back to share as soon as the feature begins roll out!

Hi community, we understand there are differing needs in this idea for why you’d like a separate posting date alongside the invoice or bill date. Whether it’s for reporting, compliance, or just a more accurate view of when things happened.
While this has been carefully considered, we want to be transparent with everyone here, that this is not something we have plans for developing in the near term.
We know given the interest in this that this is not the update you’re hoping for, and please know that we’ll continue to track votes this idea receives for future consideration. We’ll keep you posted if things change down the line.

Hi everyone, we appreciate the number of users that'd like to see more mechanisms to assign and control who approves specific employee's claims.
Our product teams have a close eye on this idea, and while this feature is not in the roadmap atm, they'll keep reviewing this as they continue to plan and prioritise work for Expenses. So, if there us any shift in status we'll share an update to keep you all informed on the idea, here.

Thanks for everyone’s feedback and detail on how important this feature is for your businesses.
To provide a little more clarity here, it’s currently possible to create a Credit note within an individual awaiting payment invoice or bill. This’ll copy the contents of the invoice/bill into a Draft Credit note where you can edit if needed. To save many users time, once approved the credit is auto applied to the related invoice or bill, but you can remove this if not applicable.
We appreciate this feature is not available for a Paid Invoice or Bill and we understand the importance of this for some organisations.
To help our product teams get a better view of the interest for the feature in Bills and Invoices it would help to track these through separate ideas - I’ll change the title of this idea to reflect Bills and we have an existing idea…

It would be extremely useful if you could assign a project manager to a project. At the moment there is no way to filter projects by a person and you have to trawl through each and every one to get information.

This seems like a no brainer to me given that you have tracking codes available. People don't only want to look at what's actually been billed to a team/department but also what they are currently working on. it shouldn't need an additional app with additional costs to be able to do this - you have all the information in the system. If some of these very simple things cannot be put into place then i think we will have outgrown xero and will be moving to pastures new, which is a shame

Hi everyone, thanks so much for sharing your comments and support for this idea. We really get why you'd like a central report, so you can check each customer's payment history just to see who's paying late.
Currently as mentioned in the discussion here, you can see a customer's average days to pay on their individual contact record, but we know this isn't the same as having a single report for all your customers.
While we can see there's a lot of interest in this, it's not on our current roadmap for development. Community members will still be able to vote - So we'll continue to keep a close eye here and will let you know if anything changes.

When is this going to be done??? It's taking far too long to add something so simple - the data is in Xero somewhere it's just impossible to extract. This leads to convoluted processes in-house having to be created. It's simple things like this that will lead us to change from Xero to something more user-friendly in terms of reporting.

The reporting you can do on your clients seems to be very limited and restricted. This business critical for efficient management of debtors - why is it taking so long????
this is ridiculous that this is still outstanding. None of the recent feature updates have actually provided anything additional over and above what was there previously. The majority of companies use a PO system nowadays and require this to be quoted on their invoice to assist with payment controls. WE are now having to look at alternative software to move away from Xero completely due to the lack of action across multiple areas.
XERO YOU NEED TO DO BETTER!
