Thanks for your comments and emphasis on the bills side of things for the idea here. I've made sure this is shared with our team in this space.

Bills is an area we're continuing to develop with building on beautiful and I'll be sure to let you know here if there's any consideration made to change behaviour of this through the bills add and edit flow.

Hi @Kelly, I still don't think this solves our issue. Firstly, you have only addressed items we invoice but not items we are billed for. If we are uploading bills into the system and they include items that we track, then there is no way for us to update the pricing of each item like you are suggesting we do in the "new invoicing"...This option of automatically updating prices when creating invoices and bills are both important, but I do feel like most of us are referring to bills.

Another issue with inventory is when I assign items to a project from a bill why does it not take it out of stock or show anywhere in the inventory section that items are allocated to a project? I feel like assigning items to projects is only half doing the job. Yes, an expense "a dollar value" is charged to the project by doing this action, but nothing about it affects the stock count. From what I understand the only time we can affect the stock count is once the item has been invoiced, but, if materials are being used to make an item then technically they are no longer in stock or for better words they have been allocated to a job. Or the items were delivered before the bill was entered into Xero and the purchased items are already being used...If I wait until invoicing an item before stock is affected then this is not an accurate or true representation of stock count...Also my company will never invoice each individual item because that would create a 100+ line item invoice. A product bundle system would work much better where many items make 1 product.

Not having this feature takes away the autonomy of Xero. Our stock controller is very frustrated that prices do not update automatically when billed for a different amount, prices for us are almost always changing, nothing stays the same price for very long.

Please add this feature! And sales price too please.

Having to do this manually is way too time consuming and almost becomes pointless. XERO advertises itself as an automated admin solution, yet it fails to automate this simple feature???

Another thing MYOB has over XERO...

This idea is right! At the moment, the stock isn't being put into inventory until the item is billed, which is inaccurate. We also have many deliveries that are part-delivers. If anything, this happens more often than not.

Sometimes we are also billed before the stock has arrived, again causing inaccuracies.

Not being able to show what is on back order is also creating many dramas in our company as well...

Aaah I see, thanks for the clarification, Emma. Understand the difference between what you can get with the existing reports and what you're in need of.

I've shared with our Projects team. We're continuing to add Projects and while there's no plans at present I'll let you know if anything surrounding this is explored we'll share with you here. 🙂

Thank you @Kelly Munro. We do run these reports, but they unfortunately don't achieve what I am after with this idea that I have raised.
The Staff time overview and Project Financials reports display historical values, whereas I am after something to display current and future events.

The Project Financials report also becomes obsolete after a period of time due time staff costings changing when pay raises are given out. For some reason, the staff cost rates are not time-stamped, so if last month's labour cost was $90/hr and we made a 20% profit on a job, now if the staff cost is increased to $100/hr when I look back at the same job the profit margin changes even though at that point in time the labour cost was only $90/hr and the 20% is the actual profit from the job the report now would show a smaller profit.

The Staff Time overview is really only helpful to check that everyone is putting their time into projects each week and to the correct project.

This is an excellent idea and very useful! While we can currently upload files to a product which can be an image Xero doesn't recognise or use the file for anything. There should be an "Upload file" option and a "Product Image upload" option. This way everyone can continue to use the file upload but a product image can be included in delivery dockets, invoices and quotes. This visual feature would be really helpful! We work in the manufacturing business so a visual image of the product would be very helpful for our customers to see a quick view and for us to use the delivery docket as a easier way to check items before delivering. Part numbers and descriptions are only so good, a visual image of a product allows the reader of the document to know exactly what they are looking at with a quick glance.

When creating a PO, it could be as easy as selecting of the products from a grid of product images and then adjusting the quantity.

Hi @Jenny Peet. I believe Xero wont add mileage claims to timesheets because this is already a feature in Xero Expenses. If you purchase the Xero expenses add-on the mileage claim is really easy to use :) The option also appears in the Xero Me app once you have Xero Expenses

Please automate this more. If an employee is full time and they work 8 days Mon-Thurs and 6 on Friday you should be able to tell the system what are ordinary hours and then from there any additional hours should be allocated to the 'correct' overtime rate. The employee should not be selecting what overtime rate. They ALWAYS get it wrong...

Customisation of access levels would solve these issues. For example, Xero could have default/standard access levels as there is now, but also have the option to design our own access levels would be a significant improvement to the program because at the moment the lack of flexibility is making it hard for all different types of businesses to fit into this cookie cutter program.

Quotes are so easily forgotten about on both sides. Invoices have this ability it would be good to have the same you quotes as well.

Quote should have the ability to automatically send reminders as well just like invoices.

This feature would be very helpful as it would prevent a lot of double ups and mistakes, secondly it is a vital feature for ensuring financials are not missed.

This would be a great improvement to the quote side of XERO. This would allow us to better follow up our clients and also keep our quotes up to date and tidy.
I feel like this would be a very easy feature to add in as the Invoice and Bills sections already have similar functions.

Thanks for the feedback and raising as an idea here, Katie. We initially made this change based on customer feedback.

Appreciate how different businesses have differing needs and we'll keep an eye on the interest of this build here, however want to be open that there are no immediate plans for adding a Current column back to these reports at this stage.

Hi team, while we began work on developing the ability search and sort by tasks in Projects the teams focus had to shift to other priority work and we want to be open that this has been put down for now.

When there is the ability to pick this back up we'll return to share with you here.

@XERO please answer where this idea is at??? Is this at all happening in the future?

Please add this feature! We are looking at changing to MOYB for this reason which is frustrating because moving across will be extremely time consuming.

We are a manufacturing company that makes large robotic tractors. Each tractor has sub parts such as the bonnet, front chassis, and rear chassis. But each sub part has hundreds of parts that are welded and machined together.

Right now owe can't properly track our inventory at all. We can track inventory into the business but not out because XERO requires every line item on the invoice in order to realise inventory stock has decreased.
As you can tell with thousands of parts an invoice that recorded every part would be pages long. All we want to give our customer is a clean easy to read invoice that can say 2 tractors, or 4 bonnets and 2 front chassis and this is exactly what we do. However, this does not allow us to record the decrease of inventory.

Secondly, having the ability to reserve inventory (inventory in-use) when allocated to a project would also be HIGHLY helpful. Rather than waiting till the end once a job is invoiced and the inventory count is decreased. That way owe can see what stock is already allocated for and how much more we need to order.

We are now paying for something separate and will no longer use Xero projects because xero cannot do this!

Please allow the ability for subparts to make an item. Not having this feature is so so frustrating I can't stress this enough. I know Myob has this capability.

Secondly, can we please have the ability to schedule/book inventory and items to a job so they are already in use to prevent reports from showing inventory as still 'there' ready for use when it is not.

Would still need to consider an optional trigger here as different businesses process projects in different ways.

Appreciate the efficiency play and while this isn't something we have plans for atm, we'll track the interest of this here.

Currently xero is triggered when we go to create an invoice from projects giving us the option to mark all expenses as invoiced and the option to close the project. However, we often make draft invoices from projects that aren't ready to be closed.
Have the trigger to mark all expenses as invoiced and closing the project once the project has been APPROVED for us would make more sense.

This would be awesome to view from the dashboard! If we could see what projects are due this week and what ones are overdue to be highlighted in some way. Great for project managers.

And for those who are assigned to projects maybe they could see a shortcut of some form from the dashboard.

I guess what would affect this feature would be the level of access someone has within projects.
