Hey everyone, thank you for all your feedback. We’re on a long journey to provide more granular access and controls within Xero features that our customers need.
As you may have seen in some of our recent updates across other user roles ideas we’re currently in the process of adding more permissions within Reporting and Inventory. Further to this our research has highlighted Payroll and Banking as areas that more controls are most needed, and are on our agenda as we continue to develop permissions and access to features.
Your feedback here and through direct engagements with our teams have been extremely insightful, and we appreciate all your inputs.
I'll continue to provide updates on the development of roles for features as we progress.

We appreciate the feedback and interest in being able to set different levels of approval across different transaction types in Xero atm. Currently the draft permission will enable a user to create draft transactions in an org with out the ability to approve, while the Sales Invoice Only role will enable a user to create and approve invoices or quotes without access to purchases, and similarly the Invoice Only Purchases role will allow a user to create and approve Purchase transactions without access to Sales.
To better understand the ask in this idea can you share exactly the type of set up you would be looking to achieve to help with entering information in your organisation.

Hi everyone, thanks for sharing your feedback on this idea. We appreciate you explaining how important more flexible user permissions are for your businesses. We understand having granular control over who can create, submit, and approve quotes and purchase orders could help many of you implement better internal controls and protect sensitive financial information.
This idea is now moving to In Discovery, which means our product team are reviewing the viability of the idea as part of wider development of the permissions/user role functionality in Xero. We'll keep you updated here as we learn more.

I can’t believe that after so many years it’s still possible for a low level user who has access to contacts can still see net pay information. Making certain contacts private has to be the simplest solution.
There are many posts with regards to simplistic access levels allowing users to view more than they should. Why hasn’t Xero followed other packages by enabling administrators to manage control via a checklist for each user - the standard, invoice, advisor settings can be a generic default but we must be able to fine tune them. At the moment my employee who can generate quotes can see contacts and therefore how much people - including subcontractors - are paid.
Come on Xero, sort this out. It’s getting close to being unusable…. (I’ve been using this since its earliest incarnation and this is its Achilles heel).
