Thanks for adding this request to our Ideas Kathryn. We have looked at this with current NZ Tax compliance in mind and for transparency this is not something we are looking into at this time. We appreciate it is something others may see as beneficial so other users are able to vote in this.

Please make it possible to do a manual data refresh from IRD (for a specific client) without having to wait for overnight bulk refresh.

eg. while preparing tax return we discover that a payment made is in the wrong year so move it at IRD. We want to finish the tax return but can't refresh the payments to pick up the change

Hi Sharon, thanks for sharing your thoughts on NZ Tax filing controls. It’s really helpful to hear how automatic filing prevention could support your 50/50 split workflows.

At the moment, Xero Tax doesn’t automatically hold returns before P1, so timing still needs to be managed manually. Some practices choose to set a future Tax Return File Date in XPM, which delays filing until the date they’ve chosen, though we know this won’t suit every setup.

We’ve moved this idea to Gaining support, and it’s now open for the wider community to join the conversation. If you’re open to it, adding a little more detail about your workflow could help others see where this makes a difference.

For anyone else following along, we’d love to hear your experiences too. The more perspectives we gather, the better we can understand the need. Looking forward to seeing the discussion grow.

I think you just need to change the file date so it can't file earlier than you want:

    Tax Return File Date
The file date is the date when Practice Manager files the signed return with Inland Revenue (IR). This field defaults to today's date, and the behavior is as follows:

If you leave the default date unchanged, Practice Manager files the return as soon as it's signed.
If you enter a future date, Practice Manager holds the return once it's signed and files it on that specified date.
Ensure to set this date appropriately based on your filing needs.

Hiya team, we do appreciate you taking your time to feedback and share support in this idea.

Having been reviewed by our product team we will be moving this to Not in pipeline.

Specifications on what transfers can be done for each tax return type are supplied by Inland Revenue(IR). For the Rebate Claim Form IR526, only one transfer directly to another tax payer is permitted.

With these limitations this is not an idea we will develop. If IR make changes around these specifications in the future this may be an idea we revise. Thanks

We're interested to understand the interest in being able to add multiple emails to a clients record, for the purposes of setting these up for different purposes.

It would be great to hear more detailed feedback from our partners on the particular purposes you'd want to set up emails for and how this would help you through Xero's practice tools. Thanks!

Agree with comments below, particularly for sending tax letters.

eg. We may have a group of clients who all have their own email addresses, but all of their tax letters should go to one particular address.

in the meantime, for non-active trusts and companies, should we be deleting the return type?

Currently the FAM amount shows up on the tax notice under INC, so clients could pay the correct payment to the wrong tax type.

If paid a bit early, this means there is a risk of Inland Revenue refunding their payment back to them.

Note - this has just happened to one of our clients!!

Totally agree - hope this function is available very soon.

The software should also be able to bring in the NAME of the account at the same time, if there is one in IRD's records (MYOB does this). The account name is not visible in myIR but can be imported by the software.
