Xero Tax (AU) - PAYG Instalment Estimate Worksheet improvements
Could we get a PAYG Instalment worksheet please, with an option to tick if a client is a new entrant to the PAYG instalment system and a field where we can enter the expected lodgement date of the tax return. These fields can then drive the PAYG instalment estimate for the current financial year.
Currently Xero just estimates the instalments for the four quarters which isn't always correct. For example if we lodge a return in November and the client is entering the PAYG instalment system for the first time, there's no way to zero out the September quarter without…21 votes"Thank you for submitting your feedback and highlighting the improvements that are important to you. NZ Tax - Show notes / comments on Returns screen
Please can we have a column for a “Comment” so that we can easily see when we go to file a tax return, if there is a comment there or not.
MYOB has a symbol which is empty if there is no comment and coloured in if there is, and it’s really helpful. It is also possible to add multiple notes (which you would see after clicking on the symbol).
This means you can read the comment(s) before attempting to file the return – which could be important if it has to be held temporarily for some reason.
It would…
4 votesAppreciate you sharing why seeing notes from the Returns screen would be helpful when reviewing returns before filing, Kathryn.
We'll start to get a sense of the wider interest in this here and I'll share if there's any progress.

AU Tax - Show/hide columns
Users have control over which columns are visible and the order in which they appear. This is managed through drag-and-drop functionality or by checking/unchecking column options.
5 votesHi everyone, we have started this idea off the back of the original post here so we can get an understanding of support for being able to show or hide columns on a user basis within AU Tax.
Being upfront, we don't have any plans for this at present but would like to get an idea of the interest through this idea.

ATO - Medicare data
Grab all ATO online prefill data. Why exclude the data that shows how many days hospital cover was covered? Why not provide all the data that is available on the portal prefill pintouts? (Including previous year deductions and occupation etc)
7 votesThanks so much for raising this and explaining how you’re using the ATO prefill data. We’ve logged your feedback and will move it into our Gaining Support process so the product team can consider it alongside other work. At this stage there are no planned changes to how Xero imports Medicare and ATO prefill data, but your input is really valuable in helping us understand where improvements would add the most value..

Xero Tax(AU) - Cover letter Placeholders Estimated Division 293 Liability
It would be great to have a cover letter placeholder that alerted the client to the estimated Div 293 that would be payable (as the superannuation contributions worksheet) and that the ATO would issue a separate assessment. The note on the estimate is not prominent enough and easily missed by clients. Having it default on the letter would be another opportunity to make sure the client sees it.
10 votesThanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea. We appreciate you highlighting how important clear client communication is when it comes to Division 293 tax liabilities.
We've reviewed your idea and now it's up to the community to get behind and support it. Make sure you share your idea with any colleagues that this could benefit so they can add their vote too!

AU Tax - Hold selection across multiple pages
Items that are selected remain selected even when filters or search queries are applied. This ensures that selection is not lost when the view changes.
5 votesHi team, this idea has been created off the back of an original post here to get a better idea of the interest for being able to hold selections across status lists within AU Tax.
While we don't have immediate plans around this it would be good to gauge the wider interest in this from the community here. Thanks

AU Tax - Pull client date of death into return
It would be useful for the client date of death field to automatically be pulled into the relevant tax return if field to save manual look up and entry when entering client tax returns.
10 votesWe appreciate that with date of death now available as a field on a client record that some users would like to see this automatically pull through to the relevant tax return.
While we don't have direct plans of this right now we're keen to get a sense of interest in this from our partners in community.

NZ Tax | Payments - Ability to sort clients by group
We generate Tax Payment reports by Group, so they can be checked in that order. This means the reviewer can get an overall picture of all the clients in a group.
When we go to approve and send the tax letters, the onscreen order is only by Client (not to mention in first name order which is another serious problem!)
You can filter by Taxable group but this only means you can select one group at a time to look at.
Please can Group also be shown onscreen so the entire Tax Payments list can be sorted into either Group…
2 votesAppreciate sharing detail on how this improvement would better your practices workflow, Kathryn.
We'll start to get a sense of the wider interest through your idea, and if there are any updates I'll be sure to share with you here. Thanks

AU Tax - Show total Payable/ Refund amount on Activity Statement
The Activity Statements in Xero Tax need to have the total payable/refundable at the top of the screen like the Tax Returns do. It would be nice to see the result when you're on a different page than the summary page.
7 votesHi Rachel, thanks for sharing your idea, and letting us know the changes that matter most for you.
We've opened this idea for the community to add their support. We'll monitor this space for more traction. Cheers!

AU Tax - Automatically exclude Superannuation Taxed Elements for clients aged 60+
Xero Tax makes no attempt to look at the age of the recipient of superannuation annuities. Taxed Elements for individuals over 60 years of age are meant to be excluded from the tax return. The ATO does this automatically - Xero Tax does not. It is not a feature request, this is an error in the software that needs rectifying.
4 votesThanks Chris for the feedback. We hear that reviewing and adjusting superannuation components based on age can add extra steps during the return process.
Incorporating age-based logic for Superannuation Taxed Elements may help reduce manual handling and support more streamlined preparation workflows. This has been moved to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking interest and share it with the product team.

NZ Tax - UOMI should be included in Payment Schedule
Currently UOMI just shows as a note above the payment schedule but is not included in it, so it is easy to miss and doesn't show our clients the total liability.
Please could you include a line for UOMI in the payment schedule as well as including the note which shows the date interest is calculated up to (like MYOB does)?
Alternatively please add a tick box to the Use of Money Interest settings so we choose whether or not to add it to the payment schedule.
Thank you.
3 votesAppreciate you sharing with us here, Kathryn. Thanks for also adding detail on why this'd be useful.
We're just starting to get a sense of the wider interest for this from the community here - make sure to share your idea with colleagues that'd like to see this developed so they can vote, too.
I'll make sure to update if there are any plans made.

Xero Tax (NZ) - Change colour of Mark as Approved and Mark as Signed buttons
It would be good if the "Mark as Approved" and "Mark as Signed" buttons in XPM were different colours rather than the same green. It is very easy to click on Mark as Signed in error.
5 votesThanks for sharing your idea relating to changing the colour of the buttons in XPM, and letting us know the changes that matter most for you.

AU Tax | Trust Tax Returns - Multi business Worksheets
After discussion with Xero support it would be beneficial to have the option for multiple business worksheets added to the Trust Tax Returns.
4 votesHi everyone, thanks for sharing this idea. We understand you’re looking for a way to manage multiple business activities within a single Trust Tax Return.
The suggestion is to support multiple business worksheets within one return, making it easier to capture different business streams separately while keeping the tax file organised.
For now, some practices use external spreadsheets to consolidate and track this information before completing the return. We'll continue to track the interest on this idea here.

AU Tax - Automatically pre-fill PAYG instalments paid or raised into tax returns
It would be good if Xero tax is able to prefill the PAYG Instalments paid/raised in the tax returns.
4 votesHi Sharleen, appreciate you raising this idea. We understand that having PAYG instalment details flow through to tax returns would help make the process smoother and reduce the need to manually check separate records.
We'll continue to track interest and engagement for our product teams to understand the value of improving how PAYG instalment information flows into tax returns.

NZ tax [Payment] Summary field: can this be split so year and RIT are separate fields?
Currently when working on provisional tax letter reports, the [Payment] Summary field is a big sentence including the year the calculation is based on, and the RIT
(eg. 2025 RIT of 5,669.16 (from IRD Statement) + 10% uplift).Filtering by this field is therefore not possible.
It would be great if the year and RIT were separate fields...
We could then filter by year to find out which clients' calculations are based on last year, and which are based on the year before.
It would also be useful to be able to filter by RIT.

Print/download separate schedules/worksheets
Please enable download/print option for specific worksheets and schedules, so that they can become their own standalone document. Example, if I only want to view the rental schedule, have the ability to PDF just this part of the return. This would make the preparation of working paper documents much clearer, and support internal workflow processes. Ideally there would be a print/download button at the top of each schedule/worksheet for quick navigation.

XPM NZ Tax Return view - add Status to filter options
You can create filters in the Tax-Returns view but Status is not an option. While there are separate tabs in the view for Draft/Completed/Approved etc it would be more useful to be able to filter to see everything except Assessed in one place.

Practice tools | Tax Statements & Payments - Indicator for roll forward notes
For notes made in Tax Payments: these need to be split into 2 areas, (1) notes pertaining to that provisional installment and, (2) notes that will continue to roll forward.
It is crucial that even if the installment date has passed, the notes are still visible. Also from the main Tax Payments screen we need an indicator on the client row to show that the client has an active note (with the ability to archive a note as well).

NZ Tax - Need taxable income field available for reporting
We need to run a report showing the taxable income of all our individual clients (from the tax returns filed), to find those that are over the maximum liable earnings for ACC.
From there we check for clients who may have had more than one employer and therefore paid more than the maximum ACC levies, so we can contact ACC for a refund.
When we were using MYOB, taxable income was a field included in the tax letter reports so we could download and filter from there.
Apparently there is no way to get this data out of Xero, as…
1 voteHi Kathryn, thanks again for sharing this idea.
I can see why having taxable income available in reporting would be useful, especially when you need to identify clients who may be over the ACC maximum liable earnings threshold and then follow up on any possible refunds.
We’re moving this idea to Gaining support so others in the Community can vote for it and add their use cases. That helps us keep an eye on interest and better understand the impact this would have for practices using NZ Tax.
If anyone else in your practice would benefit from this, please encourage them to add their support and comments too.

XPH | Jobs - Show all activity statements (inc. lodged)
Since the change to the partner hub, this has disappeared.
I cannot be the only one who accessed activity statements from the job and not the tax returns tab?
They disappear into the tax return tab abyss now.
3 votesThanks for your feedback on how you use Jobs to access Activity statements, Kerrie. Good to have this understanding here and we'll see if there is a wider base of our community this resonates with too.
If we make any plans to change the way activity statements are shown on jobs I'll let you know, here.
