History & Notes - Audit trail for all transactions and user activity
Ability to see audit trail for all transactions and user activity in Xero.
Purpose: So accountants and clients can work better, and can identify who did what in Xero easier.

This function would be great if it not only showed transactions edited (as in the history and notes log) but what users are viewing without editing.

An audit trail would be so helpful. Not just for payroll but being able to see what a transaction was originally coded to and then who changed it, when it was changed and what it was changed to all on a beautiful transaction report.

Why doesnt Xero have an audit trail

Notification when STP does not get filed after it is left pending, assuming it goes thorough unless it is checked again.

Very critical

Audit trail for payroll is essential not a "nice to have" - who, when and what. Who made the original booking, when it was done (date & time) and details. And the same for any subsequent changes.

Would be great to see when the 'lock dates' are changed and by which user - i.e user unlocks a period, makes changes, locks period. Currently there's no simple way to see this happening

We need the ability to see what changes a user made on a transaction.
For example:
User 1 changed Tax Rate to "No VAT"
User 2 changed Tax Rate to "Standard Rate Purchases"
User 3 changed Account to "Bank Charges"
etc...At the moment, Xero only shows when a user edited a transaction, but not what they edited. So it's hard to audit the changes to transactions.

We need to be able to see who logged in, how long they logged in for, and what they viewed (not only what they actioned) so for example if they viewed the P&L.

A definite requirement for business owners to see who did what in their own Xero file, in particular for Payroll Admin access users, where any changes made can have drastic repercussions, including fines and Fairwork compliance. Disappointing that in 2022 we are having to ask for this function. I would have thought Xero would be all over this & a front runner for providing such critical information.

I have just had an issue with the updated tax code of employee had additional number in code which had a huge impact on net salary. The tax notice from HMRC was correct and without an audit trail I can not ascertain if issue is a bug in Xero or manual error. I had to reverse and re run my payroll in August which is not ideal.

Accountant claims I never submitted information several months ago. Of course, I have no proof, no confirmation email, no audit trail I can show.
This is a major audit deficiency. -

Definitely a need to see who is making changes to payroll given the ability of users with payroll admin access to make significant changes around how employees get paid

There is need to see who made updates to payroll and when

Hi Xero Support, I am voting for the feature that History and Notes be established so as to have audit trail for all transaction and user activity. Thanks. Gina

The ability to see which adviser provided access to functions like Payroll Administration and the ability to see what such access holders entered and viewed is important.
Also having a two approver requirement for sensitive Administration access would be a strong control approvement.
