Files - Bulk export/print attached files
Ability to export and print files from Xero in bulk.
Purpose: To have backup files and audit purposes.
Thanks for your expressions and feedback in a bulk download or print facility for Files (either from the Files library or at an individual transaction level)
We know that bulk operations can be handy, however at this time we have no plans to develop this functionality. We know it might seem like a small feat, however often even small change is more tightly woven and intricate to solve beneath the surface.
While we understand this must be frustrating to hear, we’re currently focused on making improvements in other areas of Xero and are unable to prioritise a bulk download or print feature right now.
However, in situations like these there are often connected apps through the Xero App Store that may be able to assist. We appreciate and will revise solutions that could fulfil needs in this space, but want to be honest this isn’t something we have plans for right now.

Trying to lock users into your system by not offering these types of features, is exactly the thing that will drive customers away.

If Xero is not prepared to offer a basic function such as downloading MY data in a simple way then I will need to look for an alternative accouniting solution.

I always need to download all documents at once

If we expect and encourage clients to use Hubdoc/Xero as their sole recording keeping source we need to offer them a solution should they wish to stop using it.

This would be a very useful function

I really don't understand why Xero have not allowed users to download in bulk their digital receipts. The mobile app accesses your camera and imports the photo into Xero without saving the image to your phone. So there is no other way to access the image other than through xero.
Who is going to spend days going through every transaction downloading the individual files? Surely Xero could enable this feature easily. It's a must for auditing and backup purposes.

It is a great feature that receipts etc can be saved with the transactions but not acceptable that these cannot be exported in bulk.

Peta Paterson commented
It is good that the client has the ability to attached the invoices to each transaction but then, we need to give the copies to the auditor so this step would improve our efficiency substantially.

As it is organisations' responsibility to archive / back accounting data, it must be possible to bulk export all attachments for expenses.

Downloading files one by one really takes time. Especially when there are hundreds of files in the library.

Add on to my previous note about resurrecting the subscription as a safeguard
"Only the subscriber for that organisation can reactivate it." - less than helpful if an organisation has been wound up (eg email facilities etc).
Whilst I accept that it is the Directors/Trustees responsibility to maintain/retain proper accounting records it would have been helpful to know in advance that by uploading the only copy of the supporting documentation to Xero was tantamount to filing in a black hole.

In this virtual world that we find ourselves this is critical.
Becomes a big if you have to pass on records when a company is sold to a new owner (transfer of accounting records).
Also, if we are dissolving an entity and need to keep the records for the statutory retention period.
To be fair, Xero do say that they keep the records for the statutory retention period and you can reactivate the subscription at any time, but not ideal -

This functionality is an absolute no brainer.

For all the commentors - while it’s not as good as having it built in, there are third party solutions to do this in the Xero App Store.

Can't believe we still can't bulk download files from Xero. This should be a basic feature and costs us a lot of time.

Example: I have a large client who keeps no paper records, relying on Xero to store everything. If they were to move to a different accounts package, or closed the company, or (god forbid!) Xero closed down, they would have absolutely no records they can produce in the event of an HMRC inspection.

Our insurancy policy has a clause stating that we must have an offline backup of all files and transactions

Extremely useful to have a backup of all records when closing down a Xero business. Why have you not considered this before?
-
Fiona Robertson commented
It would be a useful "backup" option

Not sure why this option isn't already available.
I left QuickBooks thinking Xero had more flexibility but this is a letdown.
